Popular Mechanics needs your Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W123) Sedan or Wagon, 1976–1985

Hi everyone,

I am an assistant auto editor at Popular Mechanics magazine, and we are looking for a 1976-1985 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W123) Wagon or Sedan to photograph for an upcoming story. The car needs to be stock and in very good condition. The photo shoot will take place on the weekend of July 23rd and 24th in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, so the owner would most likely need to live on the East Coast, but we want to hear from everyone. The shoot and possible video should only take about two hours. If interested, please contact me at adelcolle@hearst.com to send some photos and answer some follow-up questions. Please also feel free to repost this request in other applicable threads and forums.

Thanks,

Andrew Del-Colle

I wonder what the overall slant of the story is to be. These somewhat iconic cars where somewhat below the awareness horizon for many years.

Now that they approach antique status and many are still in daily use is amazing. Especially the factory support on parts compared to the big three.

Since nobody else is volunteering, if you pay my fuel costs from Denver to NJ and give the car a good detailing, I'd consider showing up:)

I doubt Andrew will check back here. Best bet is to email him. Do let us know what comes of it though!

The southeast PA Benzfest sticky might be worth a look for candidates.

As a prank, we should submit pics of the rattiest 240d on the forum.

Doing a search on google also shows several links for this name with other young classics.

Tread carefully folks.

I appreciate the research, Army. If everybody would like a little more proof, you can go here: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/industry/to-limit-driver-distraction-will-the-government-curtail-car-information-systems?click=main_sr

I am checking back here because I've received a moderate amount of responses, but none have worked out so far. I just wanted to encourage people to submit some photos if they live close by and think they have a car we could use. And sorry, but I'm afraid we can't foot the gas bill from Denver. Ha.

Thanks everyone.

Best,
Andrew

I would think that any of the Mercedes Repair facilities located in New Jersey might be able to help out with the location of suitable car(s) for a photo shoot.

OK then - so who is on the east coast then? I'm way too far east!

There are some hopefuls listed here:-
