I was referring to the later V12, I don't recall the OM designation ATM. The earlier OM120 V12 is also a complete turd in its own right but for different reasons. The latter ones tend to blow out the oil cooler o-rings when the trans goes into low gear limp mode and the engine spends a fair bit of time at high RPMs.

I always thought the M120 is a great motor, the Zonda still uses a modified version of it.

The CL600 munched the 850 in a drag race, Mercedes knows how to build a V12!
I'm glad they're holding onto the cars so we can find out how reliable they are at this point. I think they should do that more often, it should be fun to see.

Watched the new Top Gear. Turns out the CL600 crapped out first... tune in to find out what happened!

LOL not too surprising. I still can't believe he found that car for 6500 or whatever it was (obviously going to be more in USD, but still). There had to be something up with it. Personally I'd take the 850 over the CL any day, one of the best looking cars ever made IMO. I'm in the market for a car now but I'm not replacing a 20 year old car with another 20 year old car of higher expense but damn it sure is tempting....

Its about $11500 US Money. On my dealer wholesale there's a bunch of both for way less than that. The best examples are a silver 1991 850 with 69,000 for $8500 and a 2002 CL600 with 97000 miles for $10,000. Neither car is particularly desireable for any purpose. Certianly not for a daily driver, enthusiasts know to avoid them, and there's better and more collectable GT coupes to buy such as the 3.0 csi and 560SEC. Even in the same body style the CL55 is a better car as well as the 840 or 850CSI.

I also felt bad for Ol' Clarkson as he got ripped off pretty good for the job. $1300 for the coil pack and $650 labor to change it.

Agreed. If I was to get a W215 it would either be the 500 or the 55 AMG. I wouldn't want to touch a 600...

I disagree I like the V12, you can get a V8 in anything. V12's are special, also I think they are smoother than 8's.

I'm one of the nuts that would buy the 12, but an 02 isn't any good I'd get an 03 or newer since they have the turbo's.

Of course IMHO the ultimate big Mercedes besides the Maybach is the CL65 AMG or S65 AMG.

Go big or go home!

Agreed. If you got the bones, and a second car if something goes wrong, why not

V12's? V8's? Bah. I would go in the other direction and fit a Euro 107 6 cylinder and 5 speed into a w126 coupe. 280SEC anyone?
