I like the 3rd gen MR2! I entertained the idea of getting one when I ws looking for a 2-seater. Did they all come as a convertible? That's what I mostly saw. I'm not big into convertibles, unless we're taling about a convertible hardtop. Never liked the ragtop look. Looks nice when the top is down though. If I got one, I'd put in a hardtop. I think there are aftermarket ones.

Btw, I agree, looks like a Porsche.

A friend of mine has an MR2. '85 I think. He's the second owner (his dad was the first). It has about 280,000 miles on it and still runs great. It also handles well, sounds good, and is pretty quick due to the fact that it weighs like 20 pounds.

BTW, he happens to be gay

for the record, i believe mr walgumuth owns and races a miata. (he is definitely not gay.)

Sternly.

Have not driven the Miata hardly at all since I got my Formula Ford. I decided yesterday I need to pull out the Miata and drive it though. I'll have to put the"new" top on it too.

I am so damned tired of hearing that comment and will never buy a Toyota again because of that reaction.

I have a 1987 generation I (1984 to 1989) MR2. It looks like a Pontiac Fiero or Fiat X1/9, and with the Lotus based suspension and 7500 RPM redline engine, it is an overdog in the ES autocross class matched against Datsun Z's, non-turbo Porches and rotary Mazdas. It is more fun to drive than you can believe. It is definitely not gay.

<>

Generation II (1989 to 1999) MR2s are something like a Mitsubishi 3000GT, but have better handling. Another not gay car.

For some damn reason Toyota built a totally gay two seat convertible from 1999 to 2007 (and instead of leaving the Spyder name alone, they put the MR2 logo on it). Amongst MR2 owners owners, this is called the MRS2.

The only thing missing is the rainbow sticker.
Let me see if I understand this:

"MY version of the MR2 isn't gay and I'm deeply offended when it is called 'gay' because it indicates a level of ignorance about the car. However, I reserve the right to call other versions of the MR2 'gay' because when I do it, I'm an unbiased and knowledgeable owner of non-gay cars."

i·ro·ny(r-n, r-)
n. pl. i·ro·nies 1. a. The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
b. An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.
c. A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect. See Synonyms at wit1.

2. a. Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: "Hyde noted the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated" (Richard Kain).
b. An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity. See Usage Note at ironic.

By pretty, do you mean, gay?

It's a CAR. I kinda like the MR2's, they're nice, but I'd never own one. Just not my style. But who cares what anyone else thinks of what you drive? I'd say that's the least important decision I'd have to make on a car purchase...

That silver convertible looks like the some of the Ferarri's of the 60's...
That I lusted after.... not understanding that at already 6'1" at 14 they would not be comfortable...
check out this front end... move that air intake down into the rear quarter panel... change the badges.....and everyone would take it for a Ferrari..

You got it wrong by a decade at least, gay meant happy in the seventies, people were still naming kids gay in the seventies. it wasn't till rock hudson became ill with aids that it seemed to start being used that way. in the seventies they were "faries' etc. By the way the first gen mr2 and especially its compedator the nissan pulsar Really look QUEER!
