MR2s are pretty awesome cars. The 1st and 3rd gen are very competitive dashing cones, second gen is a bit heavier, lacks quite a bit of stiffness, but has a great drivetrain. I don't really see how any of them are "gay", I think the 3rd gen is ugly from the back and very plain from the front though. They probably would have sold a lot more of them if they had any trunk or storage at all (literally measured at 1.6 cubic feet of storage IIRC), whereas the tried and true miata has a (small) trunk and still delivers the same performance and fun for almost the same exact price.

My computer guru had a Miata.... when I researched it I found it had a very sophisticated engine... including things like oil cooled pistons like our turbo engines do.... there were other things too but I can't remember them....

There's one in my neighborhood, that looks like it's stock. It has a little rust but it's a cool little car. It has a vanity tag that says "IM FCT" ... way to catch that one, DMV.

No. It is the betrayal of previous owners by Toyota. The generation 3 MR2 bears almost no resemblance to previous MR2s other than having the engine in the rear. It had no rear trunk. Clutches were not available until the fourth year of production. It was underpowered and undersuspended.

Ford did the same thing to Shelby owners in the 70's. They slapped a few stripes on an underpowered Mustang II and called it a Shelby. The Mustamg II was nothing like the original Shelby Mustangs.

More recently Pontiac did the came thing to GTO owners. They slapped the GTO nameplate a Vauxhall/Holden Montero.

How would the rest of you react if Mercedes licenced a Kia Rio and badged it as an AMG, S-class, E-class or fill in the blank with the car you own?

Cute little cars, they make good traffic on the race tracks for the faster cars.
