Men Should Be Allowed to Veto Abortions

Men Should Be Allowed to Veto Abortions

Quote:
I believe that in those cases in which a man can make a credible claim that he is the father of a developing child in utero, in which he could be a proper custodian of that child, and in which he is willing to take full custody of that child upon its delivery, that the pregnant woman involved should not have the option to abort and should be civilly liable, and possibly criminally liable, for psychological suffering and wrongful death should she proceed to do so
This has got to be some of the more twisted and faulty logic I have ever heard.

What if the woman did not want to have a child and the man got her pregnant any way by not using a condom or breaking his condom intentionally? Does the woman have to sign a contract before sex stating that she does not want/does want a child?

Like Aklim has stated before. Her house her rules or something like that. The guy should have no say.

I can sort of understand where he's coming from, but I don't agree with the doctor.

This reminds me of the time a few months ago when an acquaintance told me about the abortion she had. The father was her current husband, who wanted her to have the kid. The kicker is that said husband was sitting on the bar stool between us as the story was told. The look on his face said, "I can't believe she's talking about this here."

You cannot 'split' a decision with 2 people. A split is 50/50 and nothing gets done unless both are in agreement. Either the woman has control over her body or the man does. I believe the woman should have absolute control over her body.

Morally, the mother should consider the father's preference, but I can't see how they could make it a legal requirement.

"Man" up and realize that it isn't all about you.
Bah, 13.3 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in the U.S. as of 2006. That's around the same risk as being a flunkie at a construction site for a year, or about 17 times safer than doing a deployment to OIF/OEF. In other words, nowhere near as dangerous as it used to be. Not arguing for male veto, just pointing out some facts.

Being the guy is legally on the hook for 18 years of child support ( or more in some states) if SHE decides to have it....he should have a say if he really wants it and she doesn't.

Haven't women been harping about equality for decades now....let them have it.

Nope. If he did not want the kid he should have kept it zipped. He didn't so he is on the hook. Sucks to be him.

If you want a kid make sure she wants one too. If you do want a kid, ditto. If you do not want a kid, make sure you take responsibility for not having the kid. Her house her rules.

Of course HE had to make the decision to have sex with her... in the first place... realizing nature and reality are not sure things....
It would be a very good rule to not sleep with any woman you do not want to be a parent with....
I was composing while David posted... well said....

Yes....but SHE also said OK and dropped her drawers.....and could have taken precautions herself just as easily and yeah, a SMART guy would assume she didn't or was lieing about doing so (yes some women do lie about being on the pill). That's a coin that does have two sides....neither one got that way on their own. It took two. They both share the blame...and the responsibility...and should in any decision that results.

Besides with AIDS.....only a true fool runs blindly into the unexplored jungle without any protection.

And yeah....if you want to dance....you better be ready to pay the piper. It happens even WITH precautions all too often.

I know a woman who had more than one abortion because her Dr. prescribed the wrong size diaphram ...
There is not anything you can really trust except abstinence ...and that isn't any fun....

I know several women that got pregnant while using the pill, condoms AND spermicide at the same time. One is a nurse.

Even WITH precautions...it happens.

Lets let women make medical decisions about testicular cancer. Or prostate issues. All's fair.
