So ya think your states Poli's are Slimy
Just had it on the news.
On the Illinois state income tax form there are a series of checkboxes that taxpayers can use to donate a portion of their refund to charity. Well a few years ago the legislature passed a law, bill whatever, allowing the state to "borrow" that money. AND they did, they have since repayed 'most' of it (about 350k still unpaid from last year), and supposedly stopped the practice. Although because of it one of the charities, Breast Cancer research, is not issuing any new grants this year. Geesh, talk about low.

Why, yes. Yes, I do. It's par for the course.
That is pretty low. Probably pretty common, though. They loves to move the money around regardless of its "targeted" use.

And the best part about it is the fact they "paid it back" using taxes collected from YOU!
Sheesh! I knew some guys who was running a business similar to that in Philly. The Feds took a dim view of THEIR enterprise. What was the old saying? Something like, "Help stamp out crime. The government cant stand the competition". |

Illinois is where governors make license plates isn't it?

In WI, they made the utility companies part of their unofficial Tax Arm. How? By collecting extra money for the poor who cannot afford heat. After all, you don't want to leave Grandma and Grandpa in the cold, do you? That money was used to fund the DA's office instead.
Anyone remember what happened to your state's Tobacco Windfall money? A report I read says that 40 cents on the dollar collected for fuel tax is being spent on road improvement. So where does the other $60 cents go? Lets say they are wrong and 50 cents goes to road improvement, what about the balance? I don't mind paying more taxes but lets see what we are getting instead of a huge shell game and in the end, nobody knows what it is getting. That is why I always say that we cannot afford any more govt "help". Thanx but no thanx.

Very true.
Unfortunately the REAL CROOKs run things from the background where they can't get touched. Blago was (IMHO) using his position to make $s one way or another. But look at the leaders (both parties) in the state legislation, past and present, and you'll see a LOT that sold us out for their benefit and feel/felt thats how it works. The Blago thing though hasn't changed much, Gov Jello just appointed a power brokers daughter to a high (6 figure) position, so it continues. ALL ARE MY OPINION SO GO JUMP IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT. (call this legalese).
