Made one of these "global buckets" as a gift for my girlfriend. I plan on sticking a tomato plant in it since she is a big veggie eater.

That's the same concept of the EarthBoxes which I started using after my brother had so much success with on his driveway. Very cool adaptation, though! I've got a bunch of old bentgrass buckets that I think I'm going to repurpose. You can't beat free/nearly free!

Cost of my bucket with soil, lime, buckets, pipe, and plant, $12. Plus I have enough soil for another bucket and pipe for 4 more buckets. . EarthBox. $60 plus shipping. . I am getting more buckets from work as well.

cited the global bucket page but instead of two buckets they use one and its lid. I like this idea as well. Saves a bucket!

If you want to spruce them up a bit, just make a nice planters box and stick the buckets in them.

I know, the boxes aren't cheap although they've more than paid for themselves in produce the past couple of years.

That's a great idea with the lids! I've got a bunch of those, too. Just in time for some fall gardening.

Does the GF cook? I could hook you up with some herb seeds, real easy to grow in a container.

I hope you make some of these cool buckets. I am looking into strawberries and herbs. Stuff she likes. I'm not a vegetarian so I am a bit picky. If I could grow a cow in one of these buckets I'd be game.

no idea how I'd start the seeds in the bucket. But maybe I'll have to start them in one of those seedling things.

You can either start them in the starter pots and place them individually or just seed them directly into the soil mix and take the plastic film cover off once they start growing.

What's most amazing is the fact that instead of getting wasted and playing video games these two high schoolers are SERIOUS about something that isn't giving them any kind of short term gain. (quick $$)

In high school I built and maintained a biodiesel processor and was researching alternative fuels. Wish I had kept the processor.
