Definitely never expected to see a SWAT team over my backyard fence Saturday morning!
 

Can you believe it?? A SWAT team surrounding my neighbor's house yesterday morning. I think the parents are out of town, so their son had some friends over. Things got out of hand about 5:00am, there was a scuffle, a gun was drawn, and one of them got shot. He's in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. When the occupants became uncooperative with the police, the SWAT team was brought in. There's been an arrest, but I don't know who. I presume the son.

Geez, we live in a very nice area where this kind of stuff never happens. The last known occurrence was a robbery about 15 years ago (told to me by another neighbor). Just goes to show: you don't always know what your kids are up to-- keep an eye on them and don't be afraid to ask questions!

There were about 15 police officers in full body gear and machine guns. A huge armored car pulled up beside the house. Men with machine guns on the decks of the adjoining houses, across the street under cars, and behind the shed that boarders our backyard fence. I took three quick pictures behind the blinds of an upstairs bedroom before heading to the front of our house to avoid any possible gunfire. The rear of our house is mostly windows so any bullets would just go right through! Luckily no one (other than one person) was shot. Hopefully this'll never happen again. The house has been deserted since. I can't imagine what the parents will do! They're nice people.

The neighbors are in for a rude surprise when they get home .You will probably get questioned by local investigaters.If its gunplay and victims are involved it requires more than just cuffs and stuffs.

I did talk to some of the police officers afterward. They stuck around for about two hours taking lots of pictures and fingerprints. I doubt I'll be asked any questions, but if I do I'll just tell them the truth: I didn't see or hear anything. I know the son's had some trouble in the past; hopefully this will be a good wake up call and he'll turn things around.

I remember one day while in college waking up to a full school lockdown with a ton of SWAT teams invading all the dorms in search of a guy who shot at the police. Apparently he just jumped on the train and booked it into the city, never found him.

I'm generally more fearful of police than criminals. It is interesting that police can lie while investigating but it is a crime to lie to the police. The people in this case will have a hassle. Once the cage is rattled, it is difficult to get rid of the authorities.

You are luck that they brought in the troops like they did.
I would put money on there being a drug connection there.

Looks like they are using AR's. They are moving away from MP5's and 9mm pistol rounds in favor of the 5.56x45. Because surprisingly the 5.56 doesn't penetrate houses and carry lethal energy as far as a heavier and slower 9mm round. The lighter .22 cal round gets knocked all about and starts to tumble and lose energy when it goes through sheet rock. The guy providing cover by the shed also has a nice Eo Tech sitting on top of his rifle, nice sight!

The MP7 and P90 which the Secret Service use are also gaining traction.

^H'guy knows his weapons, the 5.56 is a person killer (quite effective, I might add), not a block/wood penetrating round.

I used to live in a rural area where everyone lived on at least five acres. I had 110 myself. Lots of deep valleys, but trees.... Real Hillbilly country.

One day I was working on my 6.3 when I noticed a lot of SWAT cops coming out of the woods. I figured it was some sort of drill, but one of them just walked up to me and asked my name, so I told him. He then asked if I knew a guy that lived in the area and I told them he lived across the street, which means his house was about 200 yards away.

They said they were sorry and all took off in that direction. One of the cops came up to me and it turned out to be a guy I knew. He told them they were in the wrong place and to just ask me if I knew where the guy they were after lived.

If you live in a small town it helps to work with the volunteer Fire Department since you get to know anyone worth knowing!

No, though they are amping them up a bit with the SOST and MK262. SSA also has the TSX round which is highly affective at penetrating glass and car doors.

But the standard M193 round will not carry a whole lot of energy after it passes through some sheet rock and wood, it just starts to get off its flight path and degrades rapidly from their.

Also since law enforcement is not constrained by the Geneva Convention they can use hollow points, which are a million times better than the silly obsolete FMJ rounds the military is stuck with. Although the Marines have been operating in a gray area with their new SOST "open tip" or whatever JAG calls them.

The beauty of the 5.56 round is how adaptable it can be. API will go through 12mm of plate, yet frangible probably won't leave a room.

Yup... I took four quick pictures, then spent the rest of the time in my office in the front of my house. I just couldn't resist recording this event in some manner! I really wanted to grab my flip-camera and record video, but figured it could become my last video!

I dunno, sounds a lot like Arlo Guthrie's Thanksgiving Massacree. All those guys got to use their neat cop stuff. I'm starting to be more afraid of the cops than the bad guys. In Cincinnati, the cops can hit and kill you with their car with pretty much no repercussions. Lotta good guys on the force, but too many bad apples and they can't get rid of them.
