W126 passenger airbag question

I was wondering if it would be possible to paste a thin piece of veneer over the passenger side airbag in a W126. The one that takes the place of the glove compartment, in such a way as to not affect the airbags operation. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

- Peter.

No, the black plastic door splits down the middle when the airbag goes off. Putting a piece over it will either make the airbag not work properly, or send the wood flying into the face of your passenger.

x2

Even trying to put veneer contact paper over the dash doesn't seem appropriate to me.

Ignition times on the order of milliseconds, full inflation in 75 milliseconds, etc.

I think one ought to leave it just the way the bright 'boys-and-girls' made it.

I suppose that if it was very thin, and attached only on the top, you might be able to get away with it... but I wouldn't want to sit in front of it

Pity. I really hate the way they buggered up the interior of the "facelift" 126 with the passenger airbag and the ugly plastic alp hanging under ithe dash. I was thinking that If I ever acquired on I could retrofit the plastic mess hanging down there with the earlier valence but I was hoping I could disguise the airbag with a veneer. I guess that's not possible.

Take it out and replace it with the lower dash of an older one, shouldn't be to hard.

Removing the lower dash mess is not the problem and I would do so but you can't remove the airbag even though I'd like to purely for aesthetic reasons. Hence my desire to disguise it.
