Nates lousy weekend, Nate hates stupid people and Avaeos

Well, it's been a horrible weekend, and a bad week.
Cliffs: Accident out of town, Rental car died, tow truck drivers a moron, and my grandmother had a heart attack. I hate stupid people, avaeos, and wish I didnt feel like I was 90 or like I'm loopy from drugs. I'm feeling well enough to type, or watch tv.

Sunday...
Had a trip to Tomah planned to teach a class. I live in Eau Claire (90 miles away)

It was hot and humid, so I had someone else change my oil (rare, I always do it, but wasnt wanting to go out in the heat) Had the brakes checked, they squeel, but have new pads and rotors up front, and about 1/2 left on the shoes in back. Declined replacement. Battery showed weak, so I decided to replace it. Bill of about $130, no big deal.

Headed out with a bunch of water, and my weeks worth of crap in the trunk. Stopped in black river for a top off.
Uneventful trip down HWY 94, till I got into Tomah. Going straight on green traveling the speed limit, I paid no mind to the white tarus in the left turn lane. They appeared to be slowing down, so I just went about my business. She decided to turn left infront of oncomming traffic (me, and a few other vehicles)

I didnt have time to swerve, and i had brakes on for like 5-8 feet if that from the skids. I collided with her, centered into her pass front wheel and a bit of the door. Both airbags went off in my '96 neon. Knocked the wind out of me, airbag dust kept me in a coughing fit till ems arrived shortly after. The passenger of the other vehicle was removed by ems, the driver appeared unhurt as she was screaming in broken English "all his fault, all his fault" Tags were out of date on the car (happened to land nearby) but apparently she has insurance.

A few trips to the ER, and urgent care centers, and pharmacies... Have me feeling okish 4 days later, but still crappy.

Monday was stiff as can be, but I stretched out, and was able to teach for the day in some moderate pain. After class I got a rental dispatched, an aveo with 1200 miles on it. No power, thought it was normal, whatever. Drove it to and from work on monday, on the way back, the gauges went to zero with the car stumbling, and it sputtered to a hault at the stop sign. Wouldnt start, crank but no fire. Waited a bit, and called the rental agency, a tow truck was dispatched. He was supposed to get a new car from Lacrosse, drag it to Tomah, and pickup my dead avaeo.... I got the car kinda running again, threw it into first, and floored it (doing 20mphish with the CEL flashing at me and running on maybe 2 cylinders), gimped it to the barracks, and left it in the street to be picked up.

Tow truck shows up 2 hours later, with an empty truck, and says that I need to go to Lacrosse. I go to lacross, and the rental agency has been closed for an hour. He drops the car, and the rental agency guys been waiting for him. They exchange words, and he speeds off. I get a more seasoned avaeo, and a free 1/2 tank of fuel. Wasnt happy, but not in the mood. Drove it 40 miles from lacrosse to tomah, and went to bed.

Tuesday, woke up, cant move. Eventualy go to hospital, more pain meds, back x rays, and get sent home. 2 hour drive home on cement block avaeo seats, drop off papers at the office, and get into the car again. Twisting to get my belt on, I had a horrible spasm and it was all I could to to sit straight and not scream. Drove to my local hospital, got an injection, and felt much better. Found out my grandma had a heart attack or similer, and is in poor condition. Havnt been able to drive to see her, going today when my mom comes home.

My totaled car is in Tomah, for $25 a day storage fees plus the $85 tow. It doesnt look like that bad of a crash, I dont understand why I feel so much pain. I'm renting an aveo (21 years old) and paying $45ish a day, and have some serious hospital bills adding up... The tomah PD wont have the case completed till friday, so this is all out of pocket at this point. Dont have her info, but the police do.

No lawyer yet, hope I dont need one. I hate all of this, and cant even have a beer ontop it. I need to see my grandma before she passes, my mom's done in a few hours...

Words of wisdom are appreciated, slightly overwhelmed with everything. Taking it one step at a time dealing with my insurance only, and waiting for the medical bills to start showing up. Friday the report should be finished so I can let my ins take care of it.

I am am so sorry such a difficult chain of events in your life right now; my good thoughts and prayers are for you and your Grandma.

When I got broadsided in my Avalon form a guy who didn't see his stop sign; everything was clear cut. I am Mr. nice guy and I give the the insurance companies their chance to make good. Progressive started screwing me from the beginning ; they totaled the car way below any wholesale value; didn't want to pay for my daughter's hospital bill, (just x-rays dammit). They didn't play fair ball until i told them "I gave them a chance; and because of their behavior i am going to get a lawyer to represent me".
They then started to be reasonable....
I am sorry to say; Because of this one company's behavior, i will get a lawyer right away after any future accidents; we mere 'humans' are dealing with wolves and sharks when it comes to insurance companies.
I suggest you get an accident lawyer at the first hint of frustration; or before.

I have always found that a beer or two helps pain meds work immeasurably better.
Good luck and count your blessings. You have many. And for the future, always assume that the douchebag in the left turn lane you are approaching is bat***** crazy and is hoping to end it all and may decide to turn in front of you at the very last moment.

My grandma's doing better, thankfully.

Eyeing a few replacement cars, nothing too nice, I drive beaters.

Worrying about the stack of bills that are starting to pile up, tomah PD has still not completed their report. Small agency I know, but I didnt think it was that hard or time consuming.

I dont want a lawyer, I just want everything to be reasonable. Scared of getting screwed over, because of the initial denial from the other party. Thankfully the witnesses were verified and statements were taken.

Nate:
Have YOUR insurance company check up on her's. If she's not legit, get an attorney or first, see if your insurance company can handle it. See what resources your company can provide, then go MOFO on her bumper if you're not getting any satisfaction.
Life's too short to wait on Insurance Companies...but in my case, not too short on body shops!

GL guy!
