"So I was on that trip,

we did 1.100 KM the first half of the Stock Canning Route in 5 days by driving 5-7 hours a day. After the change at well 33 the shocks brocke on the way to well 36.
In my opinon it was a overload problen and a problem of use 18" wheels off road.

The only car with no shock problen was the Professional with 16" wheels and 1.000kg payload."

From the forum, it makes sense.

The wheel and tire combo on the stock G is totally inappropriate for anything but light off roading. There isn't enough sidewall and the tires available in that size are all thinly built with on road performance tread patterns. I really wish Mercedes offered a nice 16in wheel with some meaty rubber like 10 ply BF Goodrich AT's or something far more suited to such use.

Exactly one of the reasons why i've shyed away from the 2002+ MBUSA models and have been seeking out a W460.

Are they regular shocks or SLS?

Range Rover should have caught wind and driven out to deliver replacement shocks.

There's a story around here, possibly urban legend, that a guy showed up to the annual Land Rovers club cross-country excursion a few years ago with a brand new G-wagen.

He had no training or experience in off-road.

He was last seen drifting down the river, following an unsuccessful crossing attempt... as all the Landies and RRs made it without incident.

Like I say, could just be urban myth....

Would you trust a rookie with a ship or a fighter jet? Going off-road is the same thing really, the inexperianced should er on the side of caution and either read ALOT or seek training.

lol, how about the time I pulled out 3 land rovers/range rovers because they had all gotten stuck trying to rescue one another?

I have never seen a G wagon sitting on the stops because the air suspension has sprung a leak...just saying.

Better stop right there, if we start to the list the number of things that usually go wrong with Rovers we'll be here all night.

I love them but they are the only vehicle I would ever lease, I just don't want to have to fix one on my dime.

That says a lot considering I wouldn't have any issues owning a V12 Mercedes or older Ferrari.

No one in their right mind runs 18" low profile off road over here.
The Canning is not a bad road, 2wd with caravan are common as are buses.
Probably a group if inner city sales guys from MB decided they wanted to go bush. Probably could have easily done the trip in an ML if they new what they were doing.
