Dodge Ram rant
I just drove two 12 hour trip's within 3 days of each other. The entire trip I had no problems with other drivers. But on the 2 occasions I had someone tailgate me and act like a Eff tard they were driving Dodge Rams.
Every time I have had a driving issue with a truck it had always been a ram driver. What is the deal with that damn hemi?? I have driven truck at work with a hemi and I didn't think it was all that. Just chugged lots of gas. I tend to have issues with cummins idiots too. The ONLY smoke stacks I have ever seen in my life on a pickup truck have always been on a cummins ram... no joke! Just saw two today, in WV none the less. And these cummins guys always seem to blow smoke when they want to show off. I have run accross a few cool cummins guys but not many. Duramax guys seem to be pretty nice. Powerstroke... no problems ever. I am assuming cummins trucks are cheaper than the rest and draw the younger crowd. I dunno. rant compleate Thanks.

That seems to be the general case. I think you can get a ram with a cummins a lot cheaper than a duramax or powerstroke. I was sitting at a stoplight and a guy in a ram punched it and blew thick black smoke right into my face! I do not care for the styling of a ram. It has a pig snout and the 20's they come with look flowery to me. Then again, I am not much of a truck guy.

With the Obaminator in full effect ($2.4B into exclusively electric cars!), we need all the enthusiast drag races we can get - as stupid as these drivers may be, they still have a stake in the "car culture" which is being stripped away by appliances like the Prius, with government snubbing their noses at proven Blue-efficiency vehicles like the BMW 335D and Mercedes CDI.
Enjoy while you have affordable gas to pump into it. Just watch. |

The mental midgets you encounter buy dodges because its the biggest baddest looking truck they can buy. The cummins is the biggest baddest diesel you can buy. The hemi is the biggest baddest gas engine you can buy..... they probably own a forty four magnum too and if a two wheeler it would have to be a Harley.
Its all about boosting fragile egos. Then there are others who buy the dodge ram with cummins because they have serious towing to do and its the most fuel effecient truck they can buy for that. I just took a vacation towing my travel trailer with my cummins and got over 13 mpg towing, running 70 mph average. My 03 now has 97K miles on it and I just put front brake pads on it. The rears are fine. As a hauling vehicle its the most economical out there. Driving it solo it uses less fuel than a lot of cars. I don't really think buying a dodge is much if any cheaper than a comparable ford or chebby.

I've seen stacks on all of the brands up this way. A lot of guys drive Dodges because they want the Cummins, the vehicle is secondary. If I could get away with a crew cab pickup it'd be a Cummins and I'd probably stack it but I do subscribe to Gale Bank's theory that smoke doesn't help the diesel cause and you don't need smoke to make a crap-load of power.
And instead of "Eff tard", how about "Eff head" or "Eff'n A-hole". Thanks.

I don't think they are cheaper. In fact I think Cummins are more expensive. I've benn looking for a mid/late 90s diesel truck for a couple months. Chevys are by far the cheapest, then Powerstrokes.
It is hard to find a Cummins in that era for under 5k while many chevs are under 3k. I've seen more than a few Powerstokes around 4k.

I find that Cummins owners fall into 2 major catagories the first is people who do serious towing and need a very fuel effcient truck.....the second is the people who have the "other" shortcomings and feel the need to get a ridiculous truck to prove they don't....

Its the BMW 3 series of trucks. Insted of getting the bluetooth in the ear, gelled spiked haired 20 year old, you get billybob who has to prove his truck is the best every 2 minutes.
Everyone knows Chevy and Ford make real trucks.

Much of this is due to marketing. Dodge consistantly markets it's vehicles to the more performance minded crowd. Ford and Chevy to the more practical bunch.
Now, that said, if you go to any truck meet you'll see a pretty equal share of crazies who own each brand. Although, I will say that the majority of the people who bring Dodges would be what some people would call "red necks". In truth, for trucks in stock form, both gas and diesel trucks from all 3 brands are pretty competetive with one another from a performance standpoint. Cummins has been around for the longest, is the easiest and cheapest to modify so naturally it has the lions share of the performance market. The Powerstroke fuel system was never meant for performance and therefore, costs a bundle just to get it up to a point where it can generate higher HP numbers. Chevy was behind the game for years through the late 90's but the Duramax has proven to be a great design and is extremely competetive.

Wow very "christian" of you... approving of and/or blowing cancer causing smoke yourself in people's face for no other reason than to make yourself feel good. That's a idiotic and reprehensible act.

I have a Ford Diesel ( pre PowerStroke), and associate with a great group of guys at oilburners.net.
There was recent thread by a guy asking how to turn up the pump so he could blow smoke. He was seriously taken down by nearly everyone. Most seem to think that blowing smoke attracts the wrong kind of attention, and may result in increased laws against diesels. We recently had out 9th annual East Coast Get together. This year it was at Bowling Green. We had about 30 families. A great time, and a great family atmosphere. A few weeks prior to our event, there was a Dodge group in a nearby campground. They royally po'd the locals by smoke and noise. The local outrage actually threatened out GTG, but we a have a reputation for policing ourselves. Every campground we have used invites us to return, and are pleased to have had us. Some of our group run straight pipes, some have stacks in the bed, but we all behave and drive quietly in the campground.
