.

Mortality has its way of sooner or latter getting one's attention.

I think gratitude is very wise.

Thanks for commenting.

So sorry on your acquaintance's demise.

I remember a wise old guy saying a man who dies without life insurance doesn't die, he absconds.

Hope for the family's sake, he didn't leave the cupboard bare.

The numbers are 19 & 20

19 days.....

until my 20th anniversary
...... of having a quintuple bypass aka CABGx5.

I was standing with my toes over the edge, staring into the abyss.
My girls were 9 & 7 then. My cardiac recovery roomate's daughter was to be married the week after he had bypass surgery. I wondered then how he was going to feel dancing at his daughter's wedding. In 61 days, Lord willing and the tide don't rise, I will share his experience.
He passed away last year.

Sorry to hear about your friend Swamp.

I know what you mean.

My friend and mentor larry just died at 80 after a three-month cruise with his new wife.

Yes he married late in life so he just decided the last five years would be spent doing things to please himself and not others, so he chucked all the rest and just decided to do all the things he had put off.

After a three-month cruise, the couple got home, he sat down in a chair because his neck hurt, and he slumped over and died.

Thanks for reminding us.
That's very kind of you to say, Tom. I wish it was always true.

Everyone in the neighborhood is rallying around them. Meals are being made; gift cards are getting purchased; lawn care, leaf and snow removal will be taken care of. I can't even begin to imagine what they are going through.

Jay was a smart guy, owned his own agency, so I'd have to imagine he's taken care of his family financially. That's one thing that eases my mind a bit, should something happen to me, my wife and kids will not have any financial worries. Unlike now while I'm alive.

I happily survived my first heart attack at 52, got a second chance to appreciate all I have. My sincere condolences for your friends family.

On a somewhat related note, I heard of another death today. A close friend of my business partner apparently commited suicide over the weekend. Left behind a wife & teenage daughter. No prior indications of deep rooted problems.

Damn, sometimes life is really confusing.

I'm driving her to the Dr. in Macon one day this coming week to prep for her bypass. She is 80 and dad is 82. They both are getting to where they can hardly walk.

On top of all that mom's mind is going away pretty quickly. It blows me away to see the number of med's she takes every day.

Anyway I have found that helping them during this time is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.
Jim,

I sure do like your folks, hope the best for both and prayers up for your Mom and her surgery.

I still talk about that fine Sunday dinner we had, ham and butter peas, with some of the guys at work. Makes my mouth water still. My Dad is now 87 and this reminds me I need to call him tomorrow after I get up.

My wife and I went to Jay's wake tonight. It was unbelievable. It was scheduled from 4-7. We got there slightly after 4 and the line was such that it took us 2 hours to get through it to pay our respects. When we walked out of the funeral home at 6:15, the line was longer than it was when we got there. You always hear that "everyone in the town was there." It darn near might have been the case.

It was rough seeing his wife and two little daughters and his sister, who is good friends with my wife. But I couldn't help but think what an incredible tribute this was for a truly deserving man and, wow, did his kids get an idea of the impact their dad had on their community. Talk about building a legacy.

I've got a lot of work to do.

It's always nice to see people acknowledge someones importance to a community. Unfortunately it seems, all too often, it is after they are gone.
