Well because the right people protested, now its going to be dumped on a poor rural village and the PLA will snuff out any discontent.

Its not the middle and upper classes the government has to worry about, its the 1B+ peasants.

That's a good point. Even if they are told, who knows how mobile the villagers are to get away from the threat. I suspect they are very much rooted in their agricultural existence, so to speak.

Well look at their latest damn projects.

I mean neither you or I would be pretty happy if the army knocked on our door one day and said get out in 3 months because your house and town are going to be under 50ft of water. If you don't like it tough, if you cause a stir we will shoot you. Oh and as for compensating you for your loss we built some wonderfully crappy concrete buildings over their for you to live in.

I could be wrong but I would assume most people wouldn't be to happy about that. Be they Chinese, American, or whatnot.

Whether they will be happy about it or not depends on whether you know better or not.

Whether they will be happy or not depends more on cultural and moral belief systems than knowledge of other opportunities.

Good, bad, or indifferent (and depending on the particular circumstance, all three are applicable) one of the key tenets of the culture here (happen to be in Shenzhen at the moment) is that the whole is greater than the individual. When youngsters give up their everything to care for their parents, it isn't seen as an act of great exception - it's just what you do. When 1 million residents need to be evacuated from a "village" because of an impending typhoon (just a couple weeks back), it just happens, because people know that to worry for their personal belongings means somebody is going to die needlessly.

From one perspective, this cultural leaning means an astronomical number of people can survive on minimal resources. Another perspective shows that mass quantities of cannon fodder have been bred. Both are correct.

Well see these days they probably are online and can see how other countries do it, so they are not to happy about it.

Peasant revolts are one of the parties greatest concerns, they certainly put down enough of them each year and its a growing problem.
