Lost our pet

Lost our pet hamster, Mimi, yesterday afternoon. Victim of my stupidity and heatstroke. What was going to be a great weekend has turned out to be awful. Treat your pets well, I'm sure most of you do but still. She was only a hamster but she worked her way into our hearts all the same.

Size does not matter. A family member is a family member and it always hurts when you loose one. Perhaps he will return. Never had a hamster but my cats and dogs know where their hots and a cot come from. Keep an eye out.

In any case, sorry for your loss and here is to hoping it is only temporary.

I give this advice every time. Go out and get one just like him. You will be surprised how much the new one will remind you of the old one.

Sorry I was ambiguous. I meant she died from heatstroke. I had taken her to the vet for a consultation as she'd developed a tumor which needed to be removed. Vet said she was in good shape apart from that so she would proceed with the surgery. I booked her in for the 30th. However it was 113 degrees on the ten minute drive home and my truck has no a/c. I thought having the windows down with air blowing thru would be ok, she was ok on the trip over there and had been fine in previous car trips. But heat was too much this time and she overheated had a stroke/siezure/heart attack, whatever it was just before we pulled into my garage. She died about an hour later. When I think back on it I realize how stupid I was taking her when I did. I should have waited till next week when I could have used my wifes car and she would have been fine. So it's my fault and it just sucks.

I lost my first dog back in Feb 2007. It was probably the most painful experience that i've ever had.

I know. I've thought about it but neither my wife or I are ready to just replace her.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had to put our two Lab's down about 12 years ago due to unpleasant changing circumstances. Just an awful experience.

Crap. Sorry. Just reread it and I missed that part.

My condolences.

I am not sure how others go about getting pets but ours have all found us. They are all strays off the street who came to us seeking shelter. Seems to have worked out well. They have all been trusted companions. Now this tends to work better for cats and dogs. I never have seen a hamster or other 'exotic' pet wandering around in need of a family.

Good luck.
