I certainly didn't mean to imply that I am more intelligent than anyone. I was simply pointing out that to assume that people very familiar with the bible necessarily adopt christianity is misleading. It's also misleading to assume that people who are familiar with the bible but are not christians don't understand it's meaning. It's equally possible that they do understand its meaning and that's exactly why they are not christians.

If we follow your logic, you're not a Muslim because you haven't read the Qur'an. (assuming you haven't)

What has reading a book got to do with it? Most of the religious books prove themselves by reaching within themselves. What if I wrote a book that said 2+2 is 9 and the proof was somewhere in the book itself? That is kinda like me giving myself a reference. Does it matter? Obviously I will say good things about myself but somehow my previous employers insisted on getting as independent a reference as possible

Everyone has a non-rational belief system. Most secularists deny this but it is true. They ridicule the religious because their non-rationalities are obvious. But by the secularist denying their own non-rationalities they create a psychological disturbance that typically leads to 'projection;' a seeing in others what is present within oneself but is denied.

In these quotes here from various OD postings are numerous examples of ridicule, derision, presumed superiority over people of faith and in particular Christians -

ah-kay and tjts1 - ah-kay, you are deficient in knowledge of world history, who is the biggest mass-murderer of all time? Who is second? Who is third? What is the totality of ALL religious caused deaths throughout time? What is the totality of improved lives or people who are alive and would not be without religion. How do these numbers compare?

I started to put tonkovich down on the link but am still waiting for the school texts responsible for venereal disease explanation.

The tone of intellectual and moral superiority drips off the sarcasm from the enlightened non-believers. The implication, if not outright statement is that believers are defective. Stupid seemed like a nice simple word to express the derision.

I offer Dr. Collins as one that you can attempt to degrade in that manner.

Believe what you will about others but to deny you own non-rational faith system is is due to cowardice and self-deception.

Kerry, I think you are right here, I don't know anyone who came to faith because of damnation. I have found it to be a hindrance myself.

Also congratulations on your prior accomplishments. I wouldn't have thought you would classify Pentecostals as Fundamentalists.

tbomachines: it's obviously a thread that doesn't interest you (or does it?). Do you interject the comment in every thread you are not interested in?

It would probably be the same if you came out and said the earth was flat or the moon made of cheese or better yet, the lunar landing was faked. And as I am sure Chillcut can verify, I don't exempt islam. I doubt any religion will get any better from me.

The linked comment a serious question. Posting an overly provocative title (a troll IMHO, but that decision is left to the mods which I do respect) with the largely irrelevant fact that a scientist has decided to stray from Christianity is a great way to get responses like you see in this thread. I am interested in the subject matter but see absolutely no discourse (if you can call it that) in this thread worthwhile of a real response.
