She'll be comin round the coast line in a few....she'll be comin round the coast line in a few. I'm ready I have cat food, litter and adult beverages. How is everyone else doing?

We've already gone shopping and are set for days if needed. We also have a gas burner that we can fire up in the garage (door open, of course!) if the electricity goes out. I've also secured all the deck furniture so it won't fly around and have walked around the house to make sure there's nothing else that'll fly away if it gets really windy. We just had new gutters and all the trim wrapped (literally finished yesterday), so the storm will be a good indicator of how solid the work was done.

I've gotta hit the wine store, probably going to pick up a couple gallons of water and maybe some canned stuff. Not too worried about that sort of thing, mostly in preparation I'm emptying out the basement and moving my car into the middle of a parking garage

Funny list of supplies. I'd need a lot of adult beverages before I'd eat cat food. The litter? Well, I can use it under my 300td oil pan.

Stay high and dry. Well...at least dry.

Don't forget gasoline and bread.

The fridge is fully stocked with beer. The rest I can just wing it.:P

Actually, I'm not sure what else we can do. We've got plenty of canned soup and food, some jugs of water, plenty of batteries for flashlights, filled all of the available Tupperware containers with water and put them in the chest freezer, charcoal for the charcoal grill, gas for the gas grill, my work generator doubles as my personal generator on weekends and evenings and I got that fired up this afternoon, can always grill the pets if things get desperate, have bunks for 4 and a camp fuel stove in the boat which is conveniently in the backyard, vehicles are fueled, chainsaw is fueled and sharpened. I think we can pretty much sit and wait.

Our building is also a neighborhood shelter/emergency supply delivery point so I'll be on call.

I about 950 feet above sea level (Ohio river is at 455) and about 400 miles from the coast. House is on the top of a ridge. I like high ground.

Got the beer, secured the lawn furniture and umbrella, got a crank-up AM/FM/weather band radio with flashlight from LLBean. All set

Those crank-up radio/flashlight units are great to have. Its always ready to go.

All of us here on the Gulf Coast are thinking about everyone up there... one tip is to fill up your bathtub... use this water to flush your toilets if you lose water pressure.

Wine and beer on hand. The generator gas tank is full with 10 extra gallons on hand.
Enough food to last till Tuesday. I'm gonna rent a hand ful of DVDs tomorrow 'cause the FIOS isn't gonna weather the storm.

Yep, and I visited the camper and got the propane lantern and grille and spare propane.
With 6" of rain and 50-70 mph sustained winds for 6+ hours, I expect trees to fall. I hope one of them is on my neighbor's property--the one that blocks sunlight to my garden.

God will get you for wishing that. :D

I don't want it to damage anything. Just saying, IF a tree has to fall, let it be the tree that helps me.

Hurricanes and trees dont mix to well,I live close to a large development called The Woodlands ,after Ike came thru their was a flood of tree contractors cutting large oaks and pines off large homes .To lift a larger tree they would use cranes to lift and seperate the tree from the home then cut them down to size.The county was hiring guys with trucks to haul trailers that were loaded with tree and brush debre for up to a month after the disaster .One of those guys told me they were getting $600 a load to pull the trailer some 12 miles and a return trip took them 3 hrs.Up to $2400 a day for hauling lumber .Its wasnt unheard of someone going out and buying a new truck just for this work.
