Coudn't have written it better myself.

That last part sounds like something Rush Limbaugh would say, but I don't think you'll hear it from any honest Christians.

For years, I believed reports that James Watt, Secretary of the Interior under Reagan, said that we don't have to protect the environment because Jesus will return and we will be leave this Earth behind. When I heard that he supposedly said that, I thought it was the most perverse thing I ever heard. If Jesus is coming back, don't we want the place to be in good shape for him? As it turns out, Watt never said any such thing. Here's his actual quote:
Quote:
...On Feb. 5, 1981, Watt told a congressional oversight committee he believed his job was "to be steward for the natural resources for this generation as well as future generations. I do not know how many future generations we can count on before the Lord returns, whatever it is we have to manage with a skill to have the resources needed for future generations."...

He was still a terrible Secretary of the Interior, but maybe not the religious nut job I thought he was.

I don't disagree, but would say religion expanded and was elaborated after ag developed. I still see it's roots pre-ag. What else explains elaborate Neanderthal burials, complete with personal items carefully arranged? While they didn't have as much time to sit around contemplating the infinite, I still think hunter-gatherers were thinking about the big questions:
Who am I?
Why am I here?
What is my fate?
Where are the cookies?

Where are the cookies with no nuts in them! Friend left choc-o-chip cookies on counter here at work. read the package, yep, "may contain peanuts or tree nuts" Darn.
Seriously, since man became self-aware, I suspect he has been pondering those questions
