Unexpected week off
My current job is inspecting the replacement of old ( 1897 to 1903) gas mains in part of Baltimore. Because of the new Grand Prix race in Baltimore over Labor Day weekend, the City has "requested" that we do not work on city streets from 3 PM today until 9am Sept 6. The crews will be kept busy moving their staging area, but they do not need an inspector to do that. My supervisor said that if I wanted the hours he'd "find" something for me to do.
I have 233+ hours of leave already earned. I can only carry over 120 into next year. I told him, if there was something important that actually helped the job, or if there was some training classes I needed to attend, I would certainly work as much as needed. However, if he was simply making work available, I could better use the time at my house. Woo woo I got the week off--except for a few hours Monday morning. |

Not at all. Once a cow is dead, its politics are of no concern to me. Besides, steaks cut from liberal cows should have a good amount of fat in them. :) |

Have a good week off.

Looks like I have a day of storm clean up before I get to my todo list.

Almost lost the week off. My supervisor asked if I would do "Storm Duty" in the wake of the hurricane. I had to ask him what that meant. Since I am not a BGE employee but a contractor, I had the option. "Storm Duty" means that you go on the clock and cannot leave until "they" say so. It might be 12 hours a day, it might be 24/7 until the event is over. I declined, hoping that there will be no negative affects.
Basically they wanted me to babysit downed wires until a cleanup crew showed up, and then go to another downed wore. repeat. |
