My uncle did a similar find in the 80's back in Holland; only it was an official one. He lived in a house that was part of an old power plant at the edge of my home town by the river. The only difference it was filled with gas-masks, uniforms, medical supplies, canned food and tools. It was part of a net-work through out the country in case the Russians would invade. Some of the shelters found over time had even weapons to supply the future resistance.

Besides that they were "official" nobody knew who at the time when they were rediscovered who put the weapons in the shelters.

Thank god we don't live in fear anymore...

I have a relative in Phx. who owns a house built in the 50's that has a real nice one. Most of the originals rusted through and flooded. His is in good shape. He caught his kids smoking dope in it.

I remember these things were called 'fallout shelters' since you were supposed to live in them for two weeks while the radiation subsided. That's why they were stocked with food and water. You normally did not advertise that you had one since everyone in the area would want to hide out with you. The Simpsons even did an episode on this where Ned Flanders built one and then, when the need arose for its use, Ned was so eager to share that in the end he was the only one in town that did not get to get in.

There is one near my home that was built at a radio station so the station could continue to broadcast during an attack. It is still in tip-top shape and it is where they broadcast from when tornados are passing by.
