Perry's an idiot

Texas isn't immune to rising unemployment rates. The state's unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in Jan. 2001, when he took office. In July 2011 it doubled that, rising to 8.4 percent, a record high for Perry's administration.
Anybody that doesnt want to look past his pony show--just look across the red river --5.4 for july 2011.
The truith is Texas is much closer to the economic disaster he's saying Obama is responsible for.

Botnst 08-28-2011 05:54 PM

Anything going on in the world outside of Texas? I mean, anything that a governor can control.

panZZer 08-28-2011 06:06 PM

well -VERY Unfortunately for everyone--The supreme court made a real bad call around Dec 12 2000 or so, and --well look around you.............

Perry is trying to claim he is responsible for the economics in Texas and he is insisting everyone look at just one small number: Unemployment. He had done a lot to bring jobs to Texas but not to create jobs and there is a major difference.

Perry has been trying to get businesses to move to Texas for many years by offering to pay for their moving costs and offering nice tax incentives for doing so. He is paying for this by shifting money from other state needs with education being the number one account to suffer. Even after a full out attempt to poach jobs from other states Texas still has an unemployment rate of 8.4%. Oklahoma, which has done next to nothing in this area, has an unemployment rate of 5.4%.

(By the way, if you know anyone who is a welder and is looking for a job the Port of Catoosa has a number of companies that are looking for welders.)

Perry has a lot of negatives that are well known in Texas but not outside of the state. When these are bought up Perry supporters try and shout down the person bringing up the facts, but they can't keep this up forever. When the day comes that Perry passes up a debate because he just dose not do debates is when he will lost the independents and be left with just the 35% of the 'always Republican' vote.

Perry is all hat and no cattle. The Republicans figured this out about Bachmann and they will figure it out about Perry. It will just take a few months.

He reminds me of another ex-front runner: Fred Thompson.

I don't think he's an idiot. I think he's pretty smart at campaigning.
Perry's star will set just like all the rest. He brags about jobs that are almost ALL government jobs. He rails against the bailout while taking billions from it. His pandering to the christian extremists is pathetically transparent. I think he's eminently nominate-able, but is categorically un-electable. I just don't believe there are enough voters in this country who'll be fooled by his silly evangelistic GWB bravado. All hat and no cattle is right.

I got to say he is pretty mediocre at campaigning, of the last three opponents, Bill White was only even a so so opponent, the others--peewee erman could have beaten -in texas.

He has good handlers. Nothing more, nothing less.

There has not been a president since Eisenhower who had a successful presidency that didn't also have an effective staff and cabinet, if we define 'success' as serving 2 full terms of office.

Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Bush I: FAIL.
Reagan, Clinton, Bush II -- success.

Can you truthfully call Kennedy a FAIL? Not much choice given to the lumpenproletariat there.

Botnst 08-28-2011 08:10 PM

Yeah, I agree that calling him a fail is probably unfair. But so would have been calling Nixon a success. So my measure ain't perfect.

OTOH, it is pretty striking to look at the 1 termers vs 2 termers. There is no question that Reagan, Clinton and Bush II had very effective staff and/or cabinets. I also clearly remember how dysfunctional Ford's and Carter's were.

I remember Kennedy. His trip to Dallas was to shore up support; it was by no means certain he would even get the nomination in '64.
Not speaking to whether or not he was a "fail", but he certainly is better in many people's memory than he was at the time.

Botnst 08-28-2011 09:47 PM

True, MS. But he has entered the State Pantheon so it does no good to speak ill of him.

kip Foss 08-28-2011 09:49 PM

Calling Perry an idiot is an insult to all idiots out there. As a Texan I can guarantee that Perry doesn't have the IQ of a cold beer. He makes Shrub Bush look like Einstein. The problem is that no matter how dumb both look there is always someone dumber that will vote for them.

Botnst 08-28-2011 09:51 PM

"Guarantee".

Right.

Next?

Emmerich 08-29-2011 12:19 AM

Too bad you have to live in Oklahoma. Texas has almost 7 times the population of OK, and they love to count the illegals in all sorts of ways.

Anybody that is surprised at a politician pandering, exaggerating, and/or flat out lying is an idiot.

And in case nobody noticed, Obama is a socialist, and socialism has ALWAYS failed, so comparing Barry's incompetence to the governor of any state is stupid.
