Frankly, we're safer because of the public's vigilance, not because of funding to police parasite agencies. The shoe, scrotum, and Square bomb plots were foiled by alert members of the public or by airline staff. Pity the earthquake didn't cause Washington to sink into the Potomac along with 90% of the "Homeland Security" lobbyists. Seeing money spend like water while the value of our dollar drops, drops, drops and our country goes more in debt makes me SICK.

Glad that I have a way of leaving this corrupt ****hole of a country and being legal elsewhere if it comes down to it.

A close childhood friend took a low level job with homeland security. When questioned if we are any safer, his reply.... marginaly.

We recently did a job for Homeland Security Border Patrol.
Lots of paperwork lots of documentation for a small job -less than $7500

A couple of my guys could not work on site , being undocumented

The site was 24/7 and everyone , everyone was fully armed even the receptionist! This was a small urban commercial office space in Reston Va.

We were on site 2 days replacing ( good ) security cameras
When I asked the supervisor in charge about undocumented workers , " can my guys work on the exterior of the building ?" His response , " they can work on the exterior and anything in lobby areas ". I was surprised but not surprised

Its lunacy , This place had the latest monitors at all desk and cubicles
they had a flat screen ( two ) that rivaled any small movie theater-all the while playing CNN and the weather channel. Conference rooms had a sophisticated occupied / unoccupied touch screen near the doors - tied into the network
(jeez 0- whatever happened to the manual signs ?)

What a waste ......nobody NOBODY spends money like the federal gov.
spend is the wrong word - piss it away is more appropriate

- of course my story was "one -upped" by some guys from Siemens , when they told me of a 30'x20' flat screen -imported from Europe that projects the Andrews AirForce logo in the main lobby - down at Andrews !
They dubbed it the movie theater without any seats .......


oH and 2 years ago my 16 year old daughter ( dainty little shy suburbia white girl)was taken aside and questioned by County Police for taking pictures of a small highway overpass
( high school photo class )

How about they get sent to do some real police work -- may I suggest patrolling inner city Baltimore at night? One more reason not to live anywhere within 100 miles of DC. The level of paranoia there is about 10x higher than NYC, despite them not being affected as badly by 9/11.
