Economy sucks but these people are doing ok
http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2011/pf/1108/gallery.make_extra_money/index.html
My own side gig is fixing small engines. Prior to that I was a s#x instructor (where I gave the first lesson for free) Having a second source of income is pure bliss.

You've got yourself a pretty good gig there, ben (even without the sex instruction!).
I used to deliver papers (I did it for almost 10 years until 2 years ago) which paid $630 every two weeks (long story short, compensation decreased with time). I started doing it when my wife became a SAHM after having our first kid. 13 years later she still is, at least until next year when my youngest starts school full time, and it sure isn't easy on one income. While I don't miss the early hours, 7 days a week and managerial incompetence of the paper, I do somewhat regret quitting it before my wife started working again. I do take care of a couple lawns for my elderly neighbors which pays for fuel for my mower, blower and both vehicles for the week plus a good 12 pack of beer. And, up until I sold my Jeep over the summer, plowed a dozen driveways in the winter. This past winter was a $6000 winter for me, essentially for just December and January. I wish I had the time to work on discarded power equipment for resale. It's amazing what people will throw away. I've acquired stuff for my own use but barely have the time between work and kids activities to work on them for myself nevermind others. In the meantime we just suck it up and do what we have to do. I'm certainly not above getting a PT job if need be, and my wife has considered it, but being active in our kids' school and extracurricular activities are our priorities.

I buy vehicles cheap that need repair and fix them when work is slow. The extra $$ comes in handy.

I used to buy and resell scooters. I would buy 'trade-ins' from a dealer, then frankenstein them up and sell them.
I stopped doing it because most of my customers were grown men with DWI's looking to buy liquor-cycles. A lot of them would come without helmets. No thanks.

I'm friendly with him and he won't tell me what he pays for them, but I bet it's easily half his selling price. I'd guess he's making $11-12K per summer just off them. He also fixes up and resells power equipment and now looks like he's dabbling in cars. Not bad for a summer gig.

Donates plasma -- *shudder*. Makes me ashamed to be living in this country if someone has to sell part of them to make ends meet.

You are always selling something. I don't care what you are selling. A laborer sells his strength to someone who wants their yard done. My wife sells her medical talents to a company that needs them. A hooker sells ******* to a guy willing to buy it as does a gigolo sell his services to a woman who needs it. You are always selling something to get something. I would be more ashamed if I had to rely on a handout to make ends meet. Selling your talents or ability or body parts is NOT shameful. We are all hookers. The commodity is different while the principle remains the same. You have something I want, I have something you want, we trade.
