Worlds largest Ant hill

Amazing how much concrete it took to fill it in. Pretty cool too.

So thats how the Egyptians learned how to bury their dead.

They found 1 ant !! It was probably planted to make it look authentic !!

Our red ant hills get pretty extensive below the surface here. There's a local artist who pours molten aluminum down them and then digs them up and sells them for big dollars.

That's sounds cool! Obviously not, but I would have thought the aluminum would cool and start to set before it reached the depths of the hill. I guess if it's hot enough to begin with.

Here's some video of Walter Tschinkel (FSU professor) making such a casting: http://youtu.be/WDgN76vYOgM.

I saw more than enough ant hills in NOLA. Not that big, but always full of the meanest critters ya ever wanted to not deal with. And that was after Katrina.

Fulcrum525 09-06-2011 12:36 PM

Great video. Thanks for the link!

(My guess however is that this is just one ant hill and that there are larger ones still out there)
