No, I have not removed it. I want to explore all the options before facing the much more unpleasant task of removing the whole faucet assembly. I can live with a drip for a long time rather than crawling into the sink cabinet on my back and working overhead.

It does look correct. I'll note that they don't give much info about how one progresses from step 6 to 8.
But Kerry should be able to try taking the tops off and see if he has success. |

Unscrew the whole handle body "B" from the circular insert in step 9, then lift off.

Kerry's already mentioned that he tried unscrewing the handles without success. I assume he'll repeat the process with more torque.
I could not see how the handle, small sphere (~1 cm) and the main body came together with any detail. Once/if he gets the handle off it will become self-explanatory. |

Illustration #9 on page 3. It appears that you hold the lever portion of the handle stationary while rotating the base of the handle - counterclockwise for removal, I think.

Yep. The lever has no fixed mechanical connection to the stem. It just slides down onto it and the coned out shell screws around the large base of the stem, holding the lever down. The lever then spins in the shell.

Were you able to release them with hand-pressure or did you use a device? |

Got it. All make sense. Cognitive dissonance resolved.
Put some leather or cloth on the CLs? Able to dress the face and put a new seat/washer/whatever in place? |

To bring this thread to a conclusion: I was never able to unscrew the stem from the body even using a socket and breaker bar. I called Kohler and they initially sent me two replacement bodies (H/C) with stems. The replacements had no bossed section to hold the body on top of the sink so I had to wait for them to send me a combination nut/boss to hold the body in place. Got the body/stem installed on the hot side last night. Working fine now. So Kohler did stand behind their lifetime warranty.

Price Pfister did the same with their Pforever Finish warranty. The plastic portions of a white faucet had yellowed in the sun. I think I faxed a copy of the install instructions and they mailed a new faucet. No return required, no receipt needed. They'd have accepted a pic or just about any evidence I owned a Price Pfister product. |
