Need help with Briggs and Stratton

Hey guys,

So I picked up a pressure washer with a Briggs 6.0HP Quantum engine that was non-running. So far I've been able to get it to sputter a little but it never really catches and stays running. I tried cleaning it out with carb cleaner and took the carb apart. Still nothing though, it just won't start. In fact the only time it would even sputter is after spraying carb cleaner in to it and even then that won't work every time.

So what should I look for? I'm going to replace the plug, change the oil, etc. Is the magneto a problem with these engines?

Thanks!

Soak the jets in a carb cleaner and spray them with a Carb and Choke cleaner spray or throttle body spray.

Likely varnish buildup clogging the jets making it too lean to run.

I've got a nice collection of nearly new lawn equipment I keep replacing with even better nearly new free stuff due to people leaving these sit over the winter with fuel in them that won't run buy the second or third season..

If its got compression...and its got spark...ya gotta look at the stupid stuff next. 9 times out of 10 that's exactly all that's wrong with it.

Pressure Washer?
Is the gas cap a good fit? Likely to get water in the tank.
Also check that the cap properly vents.

there is only one main jet on the Quantum engine.

the bolt that holds the bowl also doubles as the jet.

i suggest you clean/ream the jet with one strand of wire from a wire brush.

it should start after that.

If it has one of those bulb primer things, it may have an air leak.

Okay so I took the carb apart again and cleaned everything out as best as I could but no dice. However after replacing the spark plug it will "kick" when I spray carb cleaner in to the carb and pull the string. It'll sputter for however long the cleaner lasts.

It almost seems like fuel is not making it from the carb in to the engine. It's making it to the carb itself though. There is no primer so no leaks there, and as far as I can see the jets are clean (ran a wire through them).

is it still connected to the pump? maybe the pump is buggered and wont let it turn fast enough to catch.

and the main jet looks like this.

when you remove the bowl, is there gas in it? that means gas is getting to the bowl ok.

and if the main jet is not clogged, there is no reason for fuel to not get into the venturi of the carb.

I don't think so, but then again I don't see anywhere that I can turn the pump on and off.

Yes the bowl bolt looks like that.

I'm going to go remove the bowl really quickly, because now that you've mentioned it I don't think the bowl has been full of fuel at all.

Does it have a fuel shut off valve or a low oil pressure shutdown switch?
