As far as tbomachines bailing out, he didn't bother to answer ANY questions.

I was busy proving to my now ex wife that I made too much money to qualify for welfare. I stepped outside for a smoke when I heard about the first plane. I rushed inside just in time to watch the second plane hit.

Do I feel safer? NO...we still have wide open borders. Dirty bombs can still cross the Canadian and Mexican borders just as easily as people can cross.

I personally feel that the Patriot Act has done more harm than good. DHS, I feel, is just another way for the government to peer into the private lives and conversations of law abiding citizens.

How has it changed my life...I now look at Muslims and the first thought that comes to mind is terrorism. The area in Ohio from which I moved from a few years ago and seen an explosion in the numbers of Muslims living there...and this is where Wright Patterson AFB is located. That bothers me. I'm bothered that I look at a Muslim in full head gear and feel that I have to be on the defensive. I'm bothered that I'm bothered about the Muslim population increasing around a key military installation.

Due to the attacks on 9/11, I've lost 8 family members...one on 9/11 and the other 7 fighting in the ME. I currently have a step son in basic training, and a daughter wanting to join after she graduates HS at the end of this year. I have a cousin that is missing body parts, blown to bits from an IED.

Has my life changed? Yes Do I feel safe? No. Do I feel as if my personal liberties have been stepped on? Yes.

Do I care if anyone this, or any other fora feels like I do...Not one damned bit.

So, in memory of those that died on 9/11/2001, you won't ever be forgotten.
I didn't know it was a requirement to answer the initial questions. If you do want to know, I have no problem answering them:

- I was in the first week or two of high school, long story short: a number of classmates lost their parents, siblings, and friends that day. I grew up in CT, which obviously was greatly affected due to its close proximity to NYC. I thought this thread, titled "in memory of", would be sort of a remembrance for those individuals (thanks Layback for letting me know I'm not the only one who thought this way). As I said, I've paid my respects elsewhere and not this thread, which is obviously more concerned with the controversial (and callous, in comparison) political realm than personal respects, stories, and the remembrance of those who have been lost.
- Changes? Lets see - I personally got lucky on the last one as well as this one but my world is bigger than that-- I had to watch many other families go through hell and back over their lost loved ones. I couldn't even count how many, I lost former teachers, coaches, and family friends but compared to their immediate families I was relatively unscathed. My life has changed-- in that period of teenage rebellion I truly saw how valuable life was and it influenced a number of good future-driven decisions like staying in school, working my ass off, and making sure I didn't do anything stupid and dangerous--that continues to today.
- hypothetical question, I'd have to say yes? Its hard to say what other actions the government would have taken in place of that and/or what the country would be like without it. I'm not entirely comfortable with the scope of the thing but I don't really care since I don't have anything to hide. This is such a miniscule thing upon which to focus on a day of remembrance.

Importantly, I need to add I'm very humbled by the service and sacrifice of your family JP and my condolences on your losses.
