A sane point of view

Bob Crandall is a retired CEO of American Airlines.

I wonder how much he was paid by the democratic party to put his name on that article? The government is good and all they need is more money from the taxpayers, and for them to pay more for everything they need to survive, and everyone will live happily ever after. Moron. Can someone tell me how to access that barfing emoticon?

A great article. Is he a democrat? I couldn't tell from the article. Clearly taxes need to rise.

Investing in our infrastructure is a necessity. Letting it all fall apart will not help our country grow.

Crandall was my CEO for a few years before he retired. If you knew anything about him you would know the answer to your question. You may not agree with his POV and that is your right to do so. But don't think for a minute that anyone tells Crandall what to say or do.

All good points. So tell me, who would manage this increase in revenue? The same people who cannot even balance their check book WITHOUT funny accounting? You believe in hiring the druggie to watch the pharmacy keys?

Everybody knows the only way to "create" jobs is to cut the taxes on the "job creaters".

Can't everybody see how well it's working, err, I mean how well it's going to work, yeah, yeah, that's the ticket.

Why don't you go eat worms? Give up.

We need to try to move ahead with the system we have. Doing nothing did not work in the thirties and it won't work now.

I thought it was a simple question even for you. Is that how you ran your company? Give a bad employee more money and responsibility? If so, did it work out usually?

Yes, while I like to look at history, I don't worship history. The rules of the game has changed since the 30s as has the playing field and even the players. So, saying "X worked or didn't work in the 30s" doesn't mean it works today. The game has changed so radically that direct comparisons are meaningless.

When we have bad employees, we simply fire them. When it is not politically expedient to do so, we keep them BUT we reduce the amount of damage they can do by not giving them more responsibilities. We make an attempt or two to rehab them but if they don't show promise, we either fire them or limit the amount of damage they can do. One current example is that we have a clerk who is the relative of an important official and we can't fire him and we are hoping he leaves for greener pastures on his own. Would you recommend we promote him and give him more money and responsibilities? He comes in late, isn't good at his job and we suspect he is drunk at times. We kept him on 3rd shift and will not allow him to get ahead simply because he cannot do his work properly. We can put him on 2nd shift but he might cause more problems. IMO, it wasn't wise to hire him but his relative asked for a favor and we need his relative to do us favors. NOTHING was said about promoting him further and we won't. Would YOU do that in YOUR company? Feel free to give an honest answer.

If they had indeed done nothing in the thirties we would indeed be better off now! They didn't "do nothing." They set in place The New Deal and other Socialist beginnings that led us to where we are today.

The only way to put us back on the right track today, is to unjam the machine and let it run. There is plenty of capital on the sidelines that people will not invest because there is too much uncertainty pertaining to government oversight. If you want it destroyed, just let the government run it.

The government needs to lead, follow or get out of the way. That not only goes for the Whitehouse, but the whole bunch in Washington regardless of branch or political party.

Larry
