Quite the debacle occurred roughly 15 minutes ago, all due to the installation of a rolltop console box in my 560SEL.

I live on a very steep hill in a condominium complex, surround by old folks save for a few 50-60 year olds. Roughly 25 feet back from the edge of our car port, is the end of the driveway, and down a 50 degree grade maybe 10 feet back, is the wall of the top half of a garage.

I pulled the car out earlier to begin the full installation of the orthopedic seats wiring and vacuum tubing (soon to be published thread in the Tech Help section), and continued working after I ran out of vac tubing :mad: with my console box. I always thought they looked classy, albeit dated (rolltop function, sheesh.), and finally acquired one. I look at the design, and see that you have to clip it in, then screw the front edge from within. As I shove it into the backwards groove, I somehow managed to knock the car out of park, and I thought nothing of it, as I religiously use the parking brake. 5 seconds go by, and I am moving at a steady clip. Not thinking, as I see my beautiful car moving, I jump out and begin pushing, to no avail. The car is moving at what seems like 50 miles an hour down maybe a 15 degree grade, and I am terrified of my car hitting the garage (it was just repaired due to the massive snowfall last winter causing it to collapse, soon to be replaced again by a nearly two ton leviathan of a car crushing it) I push with all my might, and am sliding down the grass steep grade, and the car stops with an awful grinding noise. I feel like superman.

My two cool neighbors jump out to see what that noise was, and see me pushing my car up this hill, to no avail. They decide its best to give me advice as I try to ease it over the edge of the driveway in first, with one pushing the car from behind. No dice. One of the neighbors decides its time to take out his Land Rover Discovery and pull it. But what to pull it with? I didn't have a tow rope, and no chain in the house. Other neighbor has one in the back of his car by the grace of God. He somehow maneuvers the Land Rover between the front of my car and into the car port (10 feet wide to a 90 degree angle). We hook it up, and boom, the car is eased over the edge. Parents weren't home (Oh how 'lucky' I am today), and they ain't telling a soul. I check out the underside, and as my rear most muffler broke off earlier this year due to rust, DESPITE being stainless steel and replaced less than 6 years ago :mad:, nothing was damaged. Not even the bottom most layer of paint on the rockers :D:D:D . I'm not doing a thing to the exhaust until next summer, when I can afford the full Euro tri-y set up, as my emissions will be up (25 years old in CT) :cool:
