Talking Are you really unqualified?

I recently received this response to a job application.

"This is to inform you that we reviewed your application but unfortunately you did not meet the minimum requirements for this job. We will keep your application on file."

This job required "0 to 12+ yrs" of experience.

I am now feeling less-than-zero...

Someone didn't set up their autoresponder correctly. It probably should have said ..." but unfortunately there were others more qualified".

Don't feel that way! In today's HR world, they often receive hundreds of resumes for a position. On top of that, the HR people who do the first screening of that stack RARELY have a clue about the job they are trying to fill.

You might have been the VERY best candidate in the stack and could EASILY be missed. Most jobs come from networking. You could send out 300 resumes that seemingly qualify you well for the job and STILL not get a reply.

I hope you now have a job of some kind and if not, best of luck!

Larry

Or screw the job search and start doing what you were doing on a freelance/contract basis. My last full-time was 6 years ago, and I still remember it with anger (the guy was lucky that he only got a piece of my mind, not a piece of my fist when I walked out).

Thanks for all of the positive replies. I just wanted to share what I saw as humor that I did not even meet 0 years of experience, if that was what they were seeking.

Of course, I suspect there was an immediate adverse reaction (strong overtone of age-related bias) as they read my resume. Hey, it's not like I don't have quite a few good years left, people...

Technically I have a job, but the assignments have become fewer and farther between, making for some really slow times. Oh, and the insurance company insists that because I am working fewer than 40 hours in a week that I pay more of the insurance premium.

OK, work less, get paid less, and the answer is to make the bill bigger... Ah, isn't the Health Care Delivery System wonderful?
