Although this is probably posted as a slam against Repubs. I think Dems are on the flip side and make employing here in the US uncompetative. Or in some cases why work, welfare pays better. At least for some.
Now, some points not brought up in the article. One is that a lot of the job growth in TX is medical related jobs. Some good paying, but other probably mid to low hourly jobs. They don't add anything to productivity. They are a cost. The fastest growing industry in the US is healthcare. The fastest growing cost for buisnesses is , wait for, wait for it, Health care. It has been since the early 90's.
I am not sure about Obama care. To much paper, and not real facts. His first piece of legislation, and he went against all the principals he ran for. No transparency there.

Of course lower wages mean more jobs; as a business owner, I can afford more people if I can pay them less while still getting a quality employee. Keep in mind, that if I pay a great employee too little, he'll quit for greener pastures. Wow! Economics 101! Free market society! Damn you!

I guess the rant of the article is - damn you, Texas, for giving people jobs who earn less than the national average so you can reduce unemployment (especially, damn you again, for doing this during a monsterous recession with record unemployment). We should have taken a lesson from California or NY where we can overpay employees and have higher unemployment. Now that would be worth it!

Forget that it's hard to make a business more productive with fewer employees. I know; been there, done that. Also forget that during the economic upswing of 2002-2008, I was paying way too much for bad employees because low unemployment meant that the only ones left available for hire were the idiots. Now the tide has turned; because of the unemployement, I can now hire better employees for less money which means that my business will do better and perhaps I can grow enough to hire new quality employees. It's currently an "employer's market". But it won't last this way forever.

That's exactly why capitalism will never resolve the problems of class conflict without one class dominating the other.

Who said it would/should? There are always haves and have nots - in capitalism, communism, or socialism. Always have been. If you're looking to resolve class inequalities, you'll need to go live on an island. By yourself.

As long as there are illegal Mexican aliens there that will clean the toilet for dirt cheap, it sounds great.

How about this..kick out every illegal alien, raise the minimum wage to 11 or 12 dollars an hour. Free up millions of jobs and make them pay a little better.

How about kick out illegals, flush minimum wage, and let wages meet demand?

If we remove enough of the illegals and lower the number of people in the work force to better match the number of available jobs wage will rise. Having tens of millions of illegals in the work force is supressing the cost of labor.

how about, apply your christian principles to business, and pay people a fair wage? (and resolve your hypocritical stance, which embraces christianity, but loves the exploitation of workers?)

How about we move all the jobs to other countries.
Because we can get cheap, almost slave labour.

Then keep buying stuff made in those countries.

Till nobody here can afford to pay a decent wage, or buy necessities.

Then we can all become slaves, and work for peanuts.

The rich are robbing you blind.

Getting rid of illegals is the key

As one of his several endeavors, my brother owns a small pallet repair business in a small town.

He hires a few high school kids after school and on weekends and pays them 50 cents per repaired pallet which works out to about $10.00/hour.

One of his big competitors was hiring illegals at 25 cents per repaired pallet which works out to about $5.00 per hour. BELOW MINIMUM WAGE. On top of that, the big competitor wasn't paying Social Security, unemployment insurance, worker's compensation, or Medicaid. This put my brother at a 40 cent per pallet disadvantage when selling his product.

When the big competitor got raided by immigration officials, the local La Raza group went on TV and tried to justify it on the basis that no American workers were willing to rebuild pallets for 25 cents per pallet. BELOW MINIMUM WAGE.

The presence of illegal aliens not only takes jobs away from US citizens, it drives down wages, and puts lawabiding companies at a competitive disadvantage.

As long as we have illegal aliens in the country wages will drop and unskilled workers will work part-time for minimum wage.
