Here are pictures from our hotel room, first is the canvas carports over the parking lot across the street from us. Second is the wooden ship sitting ontop of the underground museum across the street from our hotel. Third is the front door of the hotel with a fellow guarding it who looked properly fierce with a large curved sword. Then there is a picture taken near the tower of some of the really excellent buildings. Finally is a picture showing the lagoon where the fountain is in the daytime with the frog men cleaning and adjusting the articulated nozzles.

I had a hard time imagining the power necessary to project large streams of water 150' or so into the air and to move it all around set to a coreographed musical score. I can only imagine the cost of it all.

They have to have the biggest and most expensive of everything there.

This is us in front of the Tower next to the lagoon. Then a picture of Tom Cruise showing the way down if you are too impatient to wait in line for the elevator, and a picture of the lagoon from above and a picture looking out over the desert which is away from the ocean side of the tower.

Is that the Tower of Babel in the background?

The first picture is from the tower of the thing they call "the world" another island development which unfortunately began sinking before they could finish it, IIRC.

The next pictures show the magnificent shallow draft wooden sailing ships we saw in a yard as we drove along the seashore near the tower. This is the sort of thing you would miss if you take a tour.

Then there is a picture of a water bus which appears to possibly be able to drive onto the land cruising by the waterfront restaurant we at our last meal in Dubai at.

It is a part of the village where you can get all sorts of traditional things from food to crafts and hokey baseball caps (yes I bought one that says Dubai on it for about $4). Last picture is the lovely daughter #4 after it got dark as we were having our meal.

Dubai is an interesting and colorful place to visit. We were there four days and four nights I believe....maybe five. If I had more time I would have driven out into the desert but from what I saw it does not appear there is a whole lot to see out there.

I am glad I went but have no great desire to go back.
