Added a new handgun to the armory today
You could say it's a bit of overkill. On the top is the new gun, a S&W .460 Magnum. It has an 8(1/2) barrel with a pretty effective muzzle brake. It holds five 200 grain bullets. On the bottom is my 1911 .45 acp. Note the size difference. The Smith is a CANNON! But i like it.

Let us know how bad the kick is. Looks pretty mean.

I'll take a video when the weather is nice. It puts out some flames, the kick is hard, but well controlled via the full length lug, long barrel, and muzzle break. Unbelieveably satisfying to shoot.

Is the new Gun compensating for something?

If you can't stop something with 5 rounds out of that gun, you best have the nearest B-52 squadron on speed dial.
I won't ask what you plan on shooting with it - probably the same answer I gave my father 20 years ago when I brought home a Marlin 1895 .45/70 lever action. He took one look at the size of the muzzle on it, and asked "WTH do you plan on hunting with that cannon?" My answer was "Any damn thing I want to!"

Guess it was a gun sorta day. I've been on the waiting list for a new Ruger SR1911. They've been unobtainium so far and selling for over MSRP when available. My dealer called out of the blue this morning and said "I got one, do you want it?" I said hellyeah, I'll drive in Monday and pick it up. Then I was perusing backpage and found a 6 inch bbl Ruger Security Six 357mag, '82 vintage, LNIB out of a big collection that's being sold off in Prescott. Seller wanted 399, I called him and said if you'll meet me tomorrow half way I'll give you 300 cash. He checked with the owner, called back and said "deal". I have a Sec. Six with 2.75in. bbl and love it, always wanted a longer one. The 1911 is a low serial number made in '11 and is going to become a never fired safe queen. I don't usually buy non shooters, but this one should be a good investment in 10 years or so; Ruger's first 1911, exactly 100 yr. anniversary and all.

BTW, that Smith is beautiful. I betcha the muzzle flip won't be near what you think it's going to be. Hope you reload. You could get two six packs of top shelf beer for the same price as a full cylinder of that ammo. Exactly why all my 45 Long Colt guns are languishing.

I still am in the X-Frame but mine was a 500 S&W mag with a 10.5 in barrel
I'd love to shoot yours sometime and see what it feels like. Mine makes the hands shake after 20 rounds. Whats a good handgun for a woman?

I have that Marlin 45-70. I used to use it when I was into cowboy shooting some years back. I've thought of selling it, but decided against it. I love lever guns. My go-to-always-loaded by the back door raccoon gun is a '72 Marlin Golden 39A .22LR. I have a Williams adjustable ghost ring rear sight on it and can ding a coon between the eyes 9 times out of 10. It's nearly as heavy as the short barreled 45-70. Feels like a real gun.
Taurus 38's and 357s are adequate shooters, but I don't think I'd like their 45LC guns. I was thinking of buying the wife a Judge for when she drives long distance alone, but am now looking at the S and W Governor, which will also shoot 45ACPs in addition to .410 and LCs.
