wow, I cant imagine how bad the reliability of a car would be made entirely of Autozone lowest cost parts......

if you look at Japanese and Chinese culture, there is no reasonable path to compare the future of product quality between these two countries.....

Yup, same with Korea. I don't know about you guys but the new Hyundais are actually pretty nice (not beating Germany, but nice nonetheless). 86,000 is a good number but I expected it to be much higher. Just for a reference I looked up 2010 Saab numbers, a company which has been plagued by complete lack of funding, old designs, and numerous worker strikes (sounds like BL...hmm). 2010 was 32,048 with a crappy product and no backing. For a financially successful multinational corporation (that just bought Volvo, and contracted with Fiat btw) I would imagine 10x that number!

Edit: reread original post, and I have to imagine I read it wrong the first time. Is that 86,000 just for the month of August or FYTD thru August (a much more common figure...)

They chinese are hungry. They want the money. Unlike us, they know they have to adapt to the world because the world does NOT owe them a living. I believe the Japanese were that way once after WWII where they were hated in Asia. I think we can forget about culture and realize that they both have a desire to survive and prosper. Used to be, working 24X7X365 was part of their culture and they even have a word for it. A documentary showed that the later generations do not have the same hunger for success having lived on the success of the past generations

I saw a truckload of itty-bitty pickups and minivans headed out of Long Beach. They all had decals indicating "GreenTruck". Grill badge was a "V". No other markings visible. They looked pretty much like the Daihatsu or Suzuki mini pickups that are common in Japan.

The "truckall" is a FOB staple overseas with the locals who help out on post. You can fit 6 ppl in the cab, and 8 in the bed. Plus all their stuff.
They squat a bit with that load

it may happen eventually, but not in our lifetime, communism has tendrils in everything, schools business and culture.. EVERYTHING I ever saw about Chinese culture is "buy it and its your problem" quality is "good enough to get you to buy it". the old school needs to die off before the new can adapt to a more customer freindly attitude. they are all about making a buck and selling the absolutely as cheap a POS as they can get away with. Japan and Korea were inexperienced but willing to change, the Chinese have had a low regard for customers for centuries, communism reinforces a low regard for individual rights, and this will undoubtedly continue for a good part of the next couple decades. Dont get me wrong, its even harder to engineer a POS than to make things right, they are not stupid, they just dont care about the end user........ we fall right into their trap when we buy a POS wrench at harbor freight for 20cents then are not surprised when it breaks and we throw it away. If people would force quality by returning this junk to the store, it would ripple back and force them to change, as it is they sell us crap, we use it once and throw it away, and they sell another peice of crap when you go back and buy a replacement after the memory of the first POS passes
