Somebody reality check me please. eBay Sale.

So I put my 280SE on eBay last week. No reserve auction, the ad clearly stated a $500 PayPal deposit and the balance due in cash at my bank.

The auction ends and the buyer contacts me. He's not going to give me a deposit via PayPal, he wants to pay me everything at the bank. I remind him of the terms of the sale and he says he knows, but he's not going to give me the deposit.

We were supposed to meet at noon today but I knew he wasn't going to show. I take my video camera to prove that I'm there with the car and the title and he's not. It's obvious to me that I'm going to have to open a dispute with eBay and I want absolute proof that I was there when I was supposed to be.

Meanwhile, his messages to me become more and more erratic. This is his last one, the reply to which instructed him to stop contacting me.

"This appears to be nothing more than a PayPal scam. I called the Lombard police asking them to be present at the transaction suspecting a robbery attemp. They advised not to go or make an appointment without having your name and address, and afterwards, they would consider having an officer available.
Since you refuse to identify yourself, I am returning with $3,050 cash in hand to my bank to make a deposit. I have already advised ebay of suspected fraud. NO ELECTRANIC TRANSACTIONS WILL BE MADE. "

What do you guys think? The way his emails seem to deteriorate makes me wonder if kids hacked his account or if he is genuinely off his rocker. He never asked for my name or address until after it was time to meet. It's strange - I always had the best luck selling cars on eBay, it's a shame when you have an experience like this.

Refused to comply with reasonable payment terms? Deadbeat bidder. File a complaint with eBay and relist.

X2
& I think he got a fruitcake !!
Probably not worth the time to go & visit the Lombard police, they would probably laugh at the guys comment.
You could suggest to him that you meet him at the front counter of the said PD & do the transaction there.
Our local superintendent once explained to me that there front counter is very busy on Friday & Sunday afternoon as its the hand over point for the fruitcakes when the estranged fathers have weekend access to their children.
A bit like feeding time at the Zoo !! ~ lots of yelling & screaming !!

You mean the poor men who were robbed of their children by the dumb bint that they had the misfortune of marrying?

But yeah, the idiot and crazy quotient on Fleabay has been increasing recently, ever since they prevented sellers from leaving bad feedback on buyers.

The fruitcakes in divorces can be either male or female.

Wow, I am beginning to wonder if I need to get the police involved. This guy seems really unstable. I started sending replies back home to him saying stop emailing me; I just sent the third one off. It seems a little over-kill but this guy sounds like he's off his meds.

Or on some really bad "meds" ... crystal meth comes to mind, causes paranoiac behavior.

We think alike. Earlier in the day one of his emails made me think "Meth is a hell of a drug".

Problem is this guy is the HR director of a firm downtown - I doubt he's a meth head.

Selling an old car is a tough business. There are some people that should never bid or buy a car unseen. Open a dispute with ebay and request to have your fees credited so that you can relist.

Send them all of the Emails and ask them to withdraw his feedback. They may do so as part of the dispute resolution.

Good luck.

HR director? Male? Angry closet case, anyone?

And meth has actually become a big problem in the well-to-do gay community.

File a compliant with ebay and relist it after awhile. Don't answer his emails, don't answer his phone calls. Just drop it from your side and get on with your life.

I'd file a complain as well, and make a second-chance offer to your next highest bidder. Was it the green one in Lombard? Nice looking car, BTW!

It appears that Sleezebay attracts some real 'fruit nuts'. Your first mistake was not enforcing the deposit requirement. As a result, you began to play his game and as a result he got to enjoy dogging you around.

The main problem is Feebay Facilitating flakes like this, and allowing them to do it a few times before doing even the slightest thing to them, old collector cars almost always get a few of these idiots, Make it CLEAR in the auction That your terms are not something they can simply disreguard-(the immediate $500 deposit) and state that if they dont intend to follow it to the letter--Dont bid on my item. if they immediately start the monkey buiz, immediately file the complaint--it takes a while. you can speed it up by closing the dispute within 4 days-at which time ebay will mark him with an unpaid item----
Or you could do it ebay's way and string it out -letting the degenerate continue to ignore you for almost a month.

Gotta love this Joke of an "auction"-----THEY CARE NOTHING ABOUT SELLERS--AND CODDLE THESE IDIOTS--BECAUSE THEY ARE USUALLY ACTING THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO.
