GOOGLE Chrome* is not a Web Browser?

I just read that Google has created a virtual web and that Chrome is just the 'browser' for Google's proprietary version of the WWW.

A google search will provide you with the info.... shockingly.

The use of this browser enters the user in consent with google to be monitored at all times... etc ... you get the deal.

thoughts?

I love google, but yet I hate them.

I have a program called Optimize Google. It's a firefox extension that blocks and removes google's ability to track me for ad purposes.

http://www.optimizegoogle.com/

I will only use firefox!

1) see that I am regularly hacking into the gubment sites

2) want to sell me something.

...but the idea that Google has constructed a virtual web and passes it along as direct web access, is troubling to me.

I've been toying with Chrome for the past three weeks and can state with certainty that it is faster than Firefox by a noticeable margin.

The greatest benefit, by far, is the complete elimination of the periodic Firefox "hang" which is beyond annoying.

Seriously though, I love google chrome, and since I have very little questionable activity as per my computer, and if I were I would get some proxies set up proper anyways, I have nothin' to worry about.

For my purposes, it is merely them trying to maximize efficiency, and as google chrome has proven to me in my years of usage since beta, it is extremely efficient.

I'm really looking forward to the Chrome Operating System; I'll name my computer T-1000 and make it complete!

Nope. Just went to my website using Chrome then looked at the server logs. The hit came from my IP address, not Google's servers (i.e. traffic is NOT passing through Google and then being transmitted to Chrome).

After messing with both of them and countless hours of reading... I believe its purely situational.

Chrome is a RAM hog; each tab has its own individual process (look at your task manager)

If all you are doing is browsing... its certainly good. But if you need to run demanding software simultaneously, be prepared.

Yup. Firefox is indeed junk nowadays. Chrome just wipes the floor with it in terms of speed and interface.

It does use more RAM since each tab, as someone noted above, are split into separate processes... this makes it more stable though. RAM is cheap these days though and everyone and their grandma has 2+ GB of ram.

Firefox also presents the interesting issue of slowly absorbing RAM. When you open the browser, the usage is about 130MB. After a few days of use, it climbs up to nearly 400MB (it's at 382MB right at the moment). If you don't close and reopen it periodically, it will slow the machine to a crawl.

As a comparison, Chrome is at 51MB with about the same number of tabs open.

I'm seriously considering dumping Firefox it in favor of Chrome unless others have a serious issue with Chrome for any reason.
