Woman Saves Boy from Grizzly

Gutsy wrangler, huge horse save boy from charging grizzly

Grizzlies are high profile this year.

A lingering winter and late berry crop kept bears in proximity to humans longer than normal, perhaps contributing to a stream of headlines about grizzlies killing people and people killing grizzlies.

Meanwhile, a young lady on a big horse charged out of the pack of grizzly stories near Glacier National Park. In a cloud of dust, the 25-year-old wrangler likely saved a boy’s life while demonstrating that skill, quick-thinking and guts sometimes are the best weapons against a head-on charging grizzly.
...
“I had no hesitation, honestly,” Bolster said. “Nothing in my body was going to let that little boy get hurt by that bear. That wasn’t an option.”
....
With a ton of horse, boulder-size hooves and a fire-breathing blonde thundering at it, the bear came within about 10 feet before skittering off to the side.

...

"Hooves the size of boulders and a fire breathing blonde!"

I bet she gets some marriage proposals!

Been quite a few bear issues recently. Not just grizzly's. There was a bear killed a woman hiking up near where Elchivito lives a couple of months ago.

I'd do either one or both but there is no way I will dare to piss them off.

Alaskan women are tough, tough enough to take on a bear.

She was in the White Mountains, lots of bears around there. People who live in her neck of the woods carry bear spray pretty often. Too bad she didn't. We've had a dry monsoon season. The bears will come in looking for food like that one did, dumpster diving. We had one in the neighborhood last fall. Foraging around in people's trash, young and inexperienced, probably orphaned. It only weighed 80 lbs. Panicked flatlanders who live in a nearby "planned community" called the sheriff. Deputies cornered it and Game and Fish couldn't be bothered to come out and trap and relocate it so gave the bubba deputies permission to kill it. Pissed me off.

I remember a few years back quite a few bears coming down out of the four peaks area and gettting quite a long way into various east valley communities like Mesa, Apache Junction etc. Might be the same thing will happen again. Seems like we've had the hottest driest summer since I've been here. Of course that could just be in the far west valley where I am - Avondale. We have had not one single storm out our way this year.

If you had our WI cops shoot it for you, it might have simply died from boredom. They had to shoot the injured deer before it crawled away into traffic again and I offered to either hold the light or shoot it for this cop. He said he could handle it. IT WAS POINT BLANK RANGE AND HE MISSED. Sheepishly asked if I could hold the light. How do you miss your target if it is a foot away from your toes? Perhaps the "Donut Gut" obscured the deer.
