On a whim I decided to the timing belt on one of the 3 cylinders. Quite possibly one of the easiest belts to do, I think it took me 45 min in total.

Just look. Don't buy.

"Mangled wreck" rhymes with "broken neck" innit?

I was looking for a beater 2 months ago. And bondavi told me to go get this. I did. I love it.

As Clarkson might say, driving it is more fun than watching the entire French Air Force crash into a fireworks factory.

A motorcycle is currently in the works. It is just difficult to find a used CBR-600 that has not been abused.... :/

I just want a car that does not stick out like a sore thumb in traffic. All of my cars get quite a bit of attention....

I'd like to buy a 5 speed metro and mod the crap out of it, aerodynamically speaking.

A bar owner here locally was moving up to Canada ,sold his bar and was selling everything he could before the trip .They had a big send off for him before his trip.He bought a Geo for the travel up north and somewhere out of Oregon he got tee boned by a Semi .A sad story to bring up about a well hard fact is that yes these cars are death traps. The bar owner was always wearing a Hawiian shirt so at the funeral everyone wore a hawiian shirt in his honor. He was known to be a great cook and was going to start up a small restuarant at a Canadian fish camp ,his dream.

Duh. Get t-boned by a semi and unless you are in a freight train, you dead.

Metro is a Suzuki Swift built by CAMMI in Canada, convertibles built in Japan.

Don't buy an automatic if you drive over 60mph, three speeds, no overdrive.

A Metro with a one liter diesel would be the coolest car on the planet. No car at all would be cooler.

Modern transportation destroyed the US as a superpower.

Typical fearful little American response.

Hey, at least it actually has decent size windows so you can see around you. Unlike 99% of modern road-crap, where the windows could double as arrow slits in a medieval castle.

Get the Metro and a motorcycle -- as far as the motorcycle, you only live once, may as well enjoy it.

I would think if you'd want to blend in you would also want a car that had better driving characteristics of an oxcart.

Why not a CRX? Old MR2? Mazda MX5? Supercharged 3.8 Buick? Turbo Volvo? All can be have for pennies and are economical like the Metro, but have good handling/acceleration/general driving characteristics.

Its not the fact of being tee boned but how it happened ,My guess would be the small horsepower the motor only gives you for its economy plays no part in emergency exceleration. Not all small cars are built the same ,I remember vids of the smart car getting some pretty abusive impact test with high marks for a survivable cage around its occupant ,a test dummy..

Tyler has a good point. You can pick up a 3.8 buick for nothing, and the few less MPGs it gets will be offset by the much higher initial buy in for a Metro.
