Now, Einstein's physics ARE known to break down--for example in black holes it forms a singularity which logically is impossible. I'm not convinced personally, I will be interested in reading the actual study and seeing how they compensate for the difference in perspective from stationary time v. time at speed (as time, as defined by humanity, is flexible).

I want to know what kind of clock they used that could detect something happening before and after it happened.

Just curious.

Same, they're making all sorts of big deals about this but I still haven't seen their methodology and the actual published paper. Allegedly its been reproduced over 15,000 times though. Until there is another CERN to calibrate the clocks, I'm not sure I'm buying the calibration.

They need a vorpal blade.

That's all I'm saying.

They decided to release their data to the world because they were so surprised by the results they wanted others to review it & point out if they made a mistake.

I'm still trying to find the actual article though, I am glad they released a teaser though, good food for thought!

Edit: found the part that said The group will present their results September 23 at CERN, and a preprint of their results will be posted on the physics website ArXiv.org, I can't find it on that site...guess I'll wait until tomorrow

Its only impossible because of our limited understanding.

100 years ago the technology to work something as mundane as an Iphone would have been outside of people's understanding.

100 years, 500 years, someone will prove Einstein wrong.

And if they had a means to calibrate that clock, I'd like to know how.

I've always thought the theory which says if you travel at the speed of light time would stand still was one of the great theories in that it was impossible to prove right or wrong and interesting enough that other folks would get excited about it.

It was the kind of thing that would make you famous even if it were bunk.

Now I believe that Einstein did some other work which would have made him eminent without it but I always though this theory was sort of bunk.

Well now maybe we can get the correct answer to that question that has fueled countless dormitory bull sessions---What happens to the light from the headlights of a space ship traveling near the speed of light?

On a serious note, it is impressive when someone asks for help in finding what is wrong with their theory. Accountability and peer review--good things.

I have a guy that works for me who says his wife drives so fast you hear her comming 5 minutes after she gets here. Maybe if she speeds up a little, we will see her comming 5 minutes after she gets here!! :confused::confused::P:P

I haven't gotten very far through it, as I am not a physicist (but for a lay person I would generally say I am very well versed in the world of quantum mechanics and theoretical astrophysics, not trying to toot my own horn...just a high interest technical area for me), I will try and offer my thoughts over the next few days. I, along with very many others in the world are extremely interested in this study and hope to offer my criticism.
