I guess Ross Perot was right
Only 55 percent of young Americans have jobs, lowest since WWII | The Lookout - Yahoo! News
Giant sucking sound of jobs going over the border. NAFTA was just a warm up. With that many 'young' people unemployed, they better beef up the police force because the crime rate is sure to rise now.

Yep, I've thought a lot in the last couple of years about his words "That Giant Sucking Sound." He's a loose cannon, but he was right on some things.
I've shaken his hand twice and he is exactly as you saw him on TV. "I'm Ross Perot, how're Yoo....? Larry

Many college grads are doing restaurant work these days. It might be smarter to just go right into the service industry after high school and save $100G. But then again, things might turn around....
A while ago I saw a movie about the dumbing down of America and what the future could look like. If you have never seen Idiocracy, watch it.

to me this is not necissarily a bad thing. some of the troubles with this country stems from know-it-all college grads going straight from college into high positions they didnt have the life experience to fill. remember the decade of entitlement and the "me" generation? we are all reaping the benefits of those times......

I don't know if Ross still does it but he used to throw a very large party every year for Vietnam era Navy POWS in Las Vegas on his dime. The press gave it very little coverage.
Years back, I worked for EDS when he was still at the helm. Male employees were required to wear a suit and tie and female employees were required to wear business attire. As a result, everyone had a great attitude and were serious about EDS business. |

Damn kids get of my lawn.
It's because they're lazier than ever and they don't have to walk 12 miles to school in the gdamm snow.

Don't get me started.....
It's because young Americans don't want jobs. We, as parents of those young Americans, have done such a good job of seeing that they don't have to struggle and work as hard as we did that they now have no idea how to work. It's easier and more profitable to live off of Mom and Dad.
When the 19 year old (who is either flunking or not attending college) lives at home, has a nicer car than the parents, an iphone or Blackberry, Hollister or Gap clothes, all the tattoos one could ever want and gets up every day at the crack of noon....why work? Rant over....for now

Then you have half of my friends that went to college, got a master and what not. They are in major debt, are not in their schooled field of choice and generally seem unhappy, especially since they were already living beyond their means and then decided to pop out two or more kids.

Well our kid is out of the house. Our offer was to fully support our kids through college. He chose to curtail his college education and work instead, so we told him he can't stay here. Now he's living in a house that he shares with 3 others, taking public transportation, and living within his means. It's the best thing for him right now.

It really was not rocket science back then to project what displacing and exporting important functions of our economy like manufacturing could produce. There was some effort expended to talk of impractical alternatives to fill the gaps in. This to me indicated in the early days this was going to be a real problem eventually.
I well remember when visiting my family in Toronto. They asking me why the movement of equipment from the centre core area of the city was only done in the early hours of the morning. I mentioned it could have been for traffic issues. In reality if so why was the movement not also in the late hours just before midnight and on the weekends all day? In those days other than buisness hours there was little traffic in the core areas. I think the political powers did not want the general population to realise just how much was leaving in the early eighties. It was a flood for awhile there. |

The forward thinkers of the early 1980's were talking about a great new information based society. Well here it is!
