Don't Worry about the Truth - Publish what you want
To help the general public fully grasp the horror of global warming Time (my error, I though tit was Time-Life not Time, no deception intended) decided to embellish the receding of Greenland's glacier mass by 1500%.
Once caught they mumbled something about something and continued on their merry way. From the NY Times - ... Greenland has not lost 15 percent of its ice cover in recent years. The retreat, they said, is more like one-tenth of 1 percent. Another article stated that if the ice had actually been lost from Greenland that Time had claimed the oceans would have risen by 5 feet. Here's the story - http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/25/science/earth/25atlas.html Last edited by sjh; 09-27-2011 at 08:28 PM. |

Maybe there is a theme here.
There is apparently an email from the author of the recent Sarah Palin book to the publisher that states the problem is that there is no way to substantiate or verify any of the juicy stories about SP. So they went ahead and published it anyway. We need more JOURNALISTS who report the Who What Where When and How of stories and less advocacy "journalists" who publish propaganda.

Even since Watergate if a journalist acted as you suggest MS they would not have a career.
The profession has changed from reporting to advocacy as have many other activities since the '60s. Go visit any center of academia outside of science/engineering or business and expect to find 90% to 95% unanimity of political thought. Their interest is advancing their agenda, not seeking truth nor preparing their students for life. |

1) Time is not mentioned anywhere in the article you posted. 2) Neither is Time Life 3) The point of the article is that scientists did an excellent job of policing and correcting the information. |

The point is that the Times Comprehensive Atlas is published and will be on shelves, and in classrooms for years. The correction or retraction is NOT published in the same way. So the error propagates itself as future globalists reference the error.

The point is the OP claims that the book in question was published by Time Life, and to enforce that meme, he then states that "Time" went on to say blah blah blah, all for the simple reason of smearing one of the right wing's big 'Mainstream Media' liberal bogeyman, Time, Inc. The OP comes to us complaining that some bad liberal actor doesn't worry about the truth, and publishes lies, in a post where he is doing exactly that, publishing to us falsehoods, with no real worry about the truth, which is plainly evident by simply reading his link. On reading it, we find out the book is not published by Time-Life, it is published by Harper Collins, and is based on work done in an English newspaper, The Times of London, not Time Magazine. He is lying, for some reason, about who published it. He also fails to point out that it is the scientists who are actually global warming proponents who are the ones responsible for finding and correcting the error. Instead, we are given a falsely based screed on his list of bogeymen who are apparently hiding under his bed, waiting to fill the world with false AGW propaganda.
On closer examination, one who actually reads the article linked in the OP, finds that the publisher Harper Collins, acknowledges the errors and that the errors in the book, if found to be errors, will not be, as you claim, perpetuated: Clarification on The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World - 13th edition - HarperCollins one finds they have issued a statement which says this: Quote:

jeezus, read the thing. Please note that the book is sourced from The Times of London, not the NYT. The only role the NYT plays here is that they reported on it, in an article that is critical of the publisher and authors.

And to make the situation even more hilarious, one finds on further examination that The Times of London is published by none other than Rupert Murdoch:
The Times - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia So all you right wingers, please tell Fox News to get their facts straight on Greenland. .... |
