Christian pastor faces death penalty for refusing to recant

Story about a convert in Iran who is being threatened with the death penalty.

Besides the horror of the story I note that it is virtually uncovered in the press.

Imagine instead, if the story was about some other groups, a different religion or sexual inclination and that they were also threatened like this.

In fact when Uganda (I believe that is the correct nation) passed their draconian anti-homosexual laws it made the press world-wide.

But threatening to kill a Christian doesn't even show up the radar.

Just another example of certain groups that society doesn't mind abusing while others are highly protected.

Iran: Christian pastor faces death penalty for refusing to recant on Independent Catholic News

A simple Google of the man's name shows the story has been well covered in the press:

Nadarkhani - Google Search

The Washington Post story was posted today.

The Koran states that the penalty for those who are born Muslim who then convert to another religion is death. Given the status of the Islamic Republic of Iran as an Islamic dictatorship, I doubt that we can do much for the man, I think listening to Botnst boo hoo over human rights is about the maximum. We can't even do anything about Rick Perry unjustly executing an innocent man and then covering up his injustice down here in Texas, another case that receives minimal publicity in the national press for some reason, never mind some poor sap in Iran who wishes to die a martyr's death. The man wishes to die for his faith, it is his choice.

BINGO. Not a loss either way. 3 options

1. If his faith is weak, he recants and lives.

2. If his faith is that strong, he dies and he will meet his deity

3. Iran might be bluffing, in which case, he is also good.

Where is the problem again?

Yes it is. It is an excellent cover for doing all kind of other things though, all in the name of humanity of course.

Many people use it as cover for unfortunate activities. Like truth, facts, and knowledge.

We have a court system. Take it up in court if you feel strongly about it. Because you don't like the verdict, it isn't Carte Blanche to say that the court judgment is not right. You accepted it when it goes with you, accept it when it goes against you or your first acceptance is meaningless. Pick one.

Are your aware of the fact that a number of Bahais have been executed in Iran over the years. How does the news coverage of the Christian compare to the news coverage of the Bahais?

People are executed each and every day in China and North Korea.
But that news isnt as sensational as this news from Iran.

The U.S. hasnt declared a 'War on Those Guys' ...yet.

WGAS about Bahais? Nobody. That means it won't sell newspapers, so to speak. So explain to me why I would be interested in wasting ink and paper to print news about that when you won't buy it? Because I am interested in enriching your knowledge base?

It's a sad, but predictable story. What it's not is an example of the silly notion that it's OK to pick on Christians, but not anybody else. It's Iran for pete's sake. They've been killing religious minorities of all flavors for decades.

This "Christians as victims" notion really cracks me up, especially here, and especially now.
