Cookies and cakes were priced at $2 for Caucasian students, $1.5 for Asian and Asian Americans $1 for Latinos, $0.75 for African American students, and $0.25 for Native Americans. Women would get $0.25 discount from all the above.

The "Increase Diversity Bake Sale" at UC Berkeley was designed to voice against legislation SB 185, which would allow public universities in California to consider race and gender in university admissions policy.
What's the difference?

SUPPOSEDLY, there is already a ban since 06 that prevents them from giving preferential treatment based on ethnicity, race or gender.

Supposedly there is. But starting a Caucasian student alliance would probably get someone in trouble.

Probably. Just as a "White Lawyer association" is not going to be as PC as a "Black Lawyer association". Too bad we can't form them without problems.

I thought the ban was even older than that -- and primarily benefited Asians rather than Whites.

According to the article, it is at that vintage.

I don't know who it benefits do you? I suppose it depends on how you define the word "benefit". If you get a boost that you are not supposed to, are you benefited? In the short run, yes. In the long run? I question that.

The left is all apoplectic. Good!
Do you get 100% off if you're a football player?

Nope. You will be considered well off and thus you will pay 300% more.

That so? My point is I find it funny that groups like this protest programs that favor minorities, but are fine with football players, legacy students, etc. getting preferential treatment. How is a person who goes to college on a full ride football scholarship any more deserving than anyone else? It seems like they're not so much against discrimination as they are against anything that benefits minorities, since apparently discriminating in favor of people who are good at sports is just fine...

Huh? Care to show us where they charged differently for football players or are you just making **** up?

My point is they gave discounts for minority students but not for football players. To be consistent with their message they'd have to give football players a steep discount as well, since they get even more preferential treatment than minority students are alleged to get.

I'm not sure I understand your point. If you perform well enough say in Tennis, Football, etc, etc and you get a scholarship, how do you compare it with letting under-qualified people in?
