Why not show real compassion and raise it to $25/hour, or even $100/hour?

Yeah, I think $100 an hour would be a good level. Of course, there would be quite a few less jobs, but if you were lucky enough to have one of them, you'd be in Fat Cat City, at least until the employer went broke, which wouldn't take very long.

Back to basics. Is the purpose of owning and running a business to make a profit, or to employ people?

Is the purpose of working to support yourself or to provide dirt cheap labor?

No one is forced to accept any particular job. That is called "involuntary servitude" i.e slavery, and has been outlawed. Workers and employers agree by mutual consent to what is fair compensation for work. If the employer pays too little, then refuse to work, start your own company and hire people and pay them what you want.

Yes, because thats sooo easy. I mean if you don't like working for less than minimum wage, I'm sure you have the capital and credit to start your own business. I think you just solved our unemployment problem. Congratulations!

I'm shocked that CT isn't in on this. They're doing everything possible to make themselves an undesirable destination for businesses to locate (that is unless they are a multinational company -ESPN, UBS, Cigna- or already established -TicketNation- then we'll give them tens to hundreds of millions $ to bribe...make...them stay, not necessarily create any new jobs) and speed up the exodus of those leaving. CT is a near-perfect microcosm of the national economy. As the state legislates and costs increase, businesses move south and west (or even to the state formerly known as Taxachusetts, which now has a more favorable business climate than here) to states that welcome them.

While it's a moot point for us, the market dictates a considerably higher wage than the current or proposed minimums, at what point did the minimum wage become a "sustainable" wage? Isn't the minimum wage what you pay high school kids for a couple hours after school or a training/probational wage to see if a new hire will work out?

Do you live in the US? Cause here you don't don't own anything you just rent it from the gov, banks, insurance, etc. Ownership is a thing of the past. The only thing that is owned is YOU.

There are more slaves on earth today than ever before in history.

Outlawed? You are joking right? Ever hear of a corporation spending time in jail?

It is to make a profit and if someone else benefits, so be it.

Many chinese worked on the railroads for LESS than the white man, saved MORE than the white man and ensured that at least their next generation was better off than they were. People with your attitude sicken me. Look around, the world does NOT owe you a living despite what you may fantasize. If you want easy, die. Same thing I have said to the wife when she complained about how hard things were. YOU owe it to yourself to make YOUR life better. Nobody owes you a thing in this world. The sooner you realize it, the better off you will be.

Try to focus. We are discussing the USA; not "the world".
