40+ knots...

45 mph in 68ft new Sportfishing boat - YouTube

I love boats and I like a lot of little ones. But at my heart I want a 40 knot Carolina boat. With a pair of 12 or 16 cylinder diesels, cranking.

55 Hatteras John Anthony - YouTube

All the light boats can sit in the harbor, but when it gets rough and snotty nothing smashes the chop down like weight. Toys sit at the dock, while the men go out in a Hatteras of course.

Light boats are worthless when it gets a bit snotty. My grandfathers Chris Craft showed a few Sea Ray's how it was done when conditions were not perfect. I remember when I was little passing a much larger Sea Ray in 6ft chop, toy boats stay inshore.

Don't really know salt water and big fishing boats that well.

My father has had the same boat for 6 years now. Formula 400 Super Sport. Full size 40' Cabin cruiser with Mercury 525s and can easily top 60MPH. People are always surprised to see a boat that large passing them. Handles like a 20 footer but handles rough water (as rough as a lake can be) really well. Turns on a dime at high speed too.

Why when I think of knots, the first thing that pops in my head is the laughable cruise ship crash scene in Speed 2: Cruise control. I didn't know sail boats could explode like that.

A Davis 52 Express is still my dream boat, Hat. I haven't figured out how to work about 6 full time jobs at the same time, though.

Those are impressive boats, but I would prefer something like this: Redirect Notice

or even this: Rhodes 18

I still want to build my own 40' cat cruiser with a cabin imbetween powered by twin 140hp mercs-shaft drive- running on propane, and disappear to the Med.

-Ide have a couple of those air cooled dutz pancake diesels for backup.
