Ceramic cooktop anyone?
Hey, so I recently found a good deal on a Whirlpool ceramic cooktop, which is now sitting in my kitchen in place of the 30 (possibly 40) year old ancient range that was there before. Anyone have one of these? I've read about problems with aluminum cookware leaving marks on the cooktop, how big of a problem is that? I have a combo of aluminum, anodized aluminum, stainless and cast iron cookware. Otherwise it looks pretty cool and works a lot better than the old coil range i had before. I also got some of the Cerama Bryte cleaner, works pretty well! I think it is just glass polish, wondering if I can use it on my windshield?

I have one that I will be replacing with a gas range as soon as possible. I like gas cooking. Hate ceramic tops. It's just a matter of personal preference, though. It cooks okay.

I like cooking on gas but for cleaning I would love the glass top.

Since I went back to gas, I have FULL control. I just wish my current stove had larger burners...that will come next spring, when I tear into the dining room and turn it into a kitchen.

Lived with a ceramic cooktop last year in a rental. Yes, easy to clean and somewhat attractive, but not the easiest to control temp wise, so the easy to clean part helps with the boil overs.

I have a Whirlpool ceramic top range and its quite nice. Cooks very well and super easy to clean, and no icky gas.

There are special cleaners that need to be used to get the best shine on them, but I have had one for about five years and love it. You can get the cleaning solution anywhere and it is cheap.
One weird thing is that I have some pans that will start to shake when water boils in them and some that don't, but I don't know if it is the top or the pan that is causing it. All of my appliances are made by Bosch. I can highly recommend their brand. |

I have to agree with the Pooka.
We've had one for over a year, and it still looks new. You have to stay current with the cleaning. Its easy to keep it clean if you do it every day, but gets difficult to impossible if you let the burned crap build up. I do most of the cooking, and yes, its different from gas, but not much different that other electric ranges.
