No Cyberspace For Old Men

Oh boy, it's gonna get ugly. Apparently the hacker group Anonymous had one of their members kidnapped by the Zetas down in Veracruz. They are threatening to release the names, addresses and locations of everybody from cops to taxi drivers who are associated with the Zetas unless he's released by Friday. The link has the video they released originally in spanish, but it has a really spooky sounding machine english translation. Perfect halloween news fare.

Hollywood is kicking itself for not coming up with this premise.

As the article states, it's doubtful the Zeta's will flinch.

If anything, they will kill whoever they kidnapped and then go after the hackers!

In this case, the Zetas are outclassed.

Especially if the hackers start to move their money without the Zetas' consent.

Yeah, these Anonymous guys are pretty awesome when you look at who they've already screwed with.

An interesting article on Anonymous. Foolish I think if we imagine them as just boys in their parents' basements.

When hackers start doing this sort of stuff, they will gain plenty of respect from the wider community.
They may just be able to do in a short space of time what the DEA has supposed to be doing for years.
If they can do it, why cant the DEA do it?

I wonder if the cartels will rally around a common enemy or enjoy the attrition. I'll put on some popcorn.

Out the DEA agents, informants, AND the gang members (not just of the Zetas). Watch the fun REALLY begin then.

Because the DEA is bound by rule of law, supposedly. Hackers don't give a crap.
