I'm finally excited about Christmas again...
After gaining full custody of my kids last month, I'm now excited about decorating the house for Christmas...for the first time in 8 years.
This weekend, I'll be going through the boxes of lights to see what's worth using, and what get's pitched. Doing so will give me an idea of what I need to purchase. Our house has 10' ceilings, so a bigger tree will be in order. I'll be looking for one that is at least 8' tall. The house, a Victorian design, will be treated with icecicle lighting, cascading down over the eaves. I'll need to get candle lights for the windows, as the house has 6 front windows that can be seen from the walkway. I know that it may sound goofy to some of you, but being able to get excited about something like this again is pretty cool to me. Does anyone else get worked up about Christmas lighting?

And if one your kids can hold a camera give them an older point and shoot camera too - the perspective of a little one is sometimes enlightening - it doesn't matter how little they are; our 3 year old twins are often taking pictures for me all the time - fantastic close ups of noses and the sofa!

battery operated LED candles. May try for electric with 5 watt bulbs this year on timers. Most of our windows are visible (at least from a distance) from the road or the nearby bridge. So I light the whole thing. I try to stay pretty Victorian in decorating so I don't do big outside light displays. The foyer of the house has parquet flooring so I put up a big cut tree in the corner, at least nine feet tall. I have some clear lights shaped like old style candles (small) that we put on the tree. Makes it look somewhat correct for time period.

Decorating for Christmas USED to be fun until the wife took it completely over and only allowed whatever designs suited her...granted, every room looks like something out of a Christmas catalog cover, but come home with a "Starship Enterprise" ornament and you get the "death" stare!
 Wife has no say on outdoor lighting, but the hours involved in stringing up what ends up looking like a paltry effort, isn't worth it. And with the recent trend of automated light shows, "twinkle, twinkle" just doesn't cut it anymore...BAH HUMBUG! I do take pleasure in manning the whole-house "Christmas Music" mix...
