Sun rises?

What would they look like if the Earth not only revolved west to east but also north to south at the same speed?

You'd look a lot busier running the calculations from your sextant readings.

Seems to get very complicated very quickly. I had thought more about stopping the axial rotation rather than the orbital rotation but either way you are talking about a bunch of hp.

How much force would it take to stop the rotation of the Earth? : science

They'd still look like sunrises, only from a different direction, or something.

Try This with a Toy. . .

It couldn't.

To demonstrate, take a small gyroscope toy and crank it up. That's the revolution of the Earth.

Next, try to rotate it in a direction 90 degrees from that angular momentum. See how much energy it takes to change it. That force would have to come from outside of the earth/moon system to make the scenario work.

That's why a gyroscope, like an angel, can dance on the head of a pin.

Forget what sunrise would look like!

How would the ocean jetstreams behave with that type of orbit???

Imagine trying to navigate though the day having weather combining the violent characteristics of all four seasons in a 24-hour period!!!
