Perry losing it

Wow. Sort of a train wreck. Like he's on laughing gas or something:

Rick Perry - Full, uncut "drunk" Cornerstone New Hampshire speech - Friday, 28 October, 2011 - YouTube

I first saw a clip of this on the thoroughly discredited Olbermann show.

No, I assure you, I was the first to see it and post it for all to see. I'm sort of a pioneer and $h1t.

No, but hey, now Perry can come out with an ad that starts off with:

"You don't need someone who talks all smooth like, who uses a teleprompter well, and who stays sober at speaking events, no, you've got someone like that now. What you need is . . . "

"Zany speech" is about right. Poor guy, even his suit looked weird. Dude does not come back from this.

Hey, I watched some of it this morning. There was nothing on and I got curious.

I wasn't planning on voting for Perry in the Nevada caucus anyway. I sure wish there was a presidential candidate I could actually get enthusiastic about.

I feel the same way. I voted for Obama last time, but I was doing what I could for McCain until he picked Palin for VP.

It would be great to have some wonderful choices to choose from, but I just don't see any.

For about the last 50 years it seems like I am saying the same thing: Millions of Americans to choose from and it comes down to these two?

Well, there was that time Perot ran.

And.....

Even though I am as old as the hills I have never been a drinker. Never. And I only have one friend who get wasted when we go out. He just starts to act like an idiot and wants to fight everyone. This is a bit of a problem because he is very good at it, so his friends tell the bartender when he has had enough.

In the opinion of some of those with a little more insight into drunken behavior, dose anyone really think Perry had been hitting the sauce?

I quit in my early thirties after two of my best friends were killed by a drunk driver. That and quitting smoking at the same time were the smartest things I ever did, and over the last thirty years I've got to watch as those family and friends who didn't paid the prices you got to pay for living life for your bad habits. It's just plain stupid, drinking away the love of one's family, going to prison for a drug or a drink, or ending up in the liver ward or an insane asylum, or dying fifteen years early for a mouth full of smoke. Glad I missed that ride. The needle and the damage done.

Inexperience on a national stage is the likely cause. Perry was in a relatively small gathering of supporters. The adlibs indicate that he felt that he was comfortable with the the smaller audience, but did not have the discipline required of a presidential candidate to appreciate how it would play on mass media. Have to admit, it's a tough job out there on the campaign trail.

Foster Brooks billed himself as 'The Lovable Lush'. I don't remember how he stumbled on to this act, but it is a variation of an old Vaudeville routine of 'The Immigrant' where someone new to the US mangles the language since they can't speak English as well as others.

But Brooks' drunk routine does not look like the behavior Perry had during the speech in question.

Perry just had a back operation. Perhaps the pain pill were kicking in? If so this would be a different matter than if he was soused.
